Blogger(BlogSpot) Homepage Gets a Makeover Too, Not Internals

Google is changing the way its products look one by one. Yesterday it was AdSense and I read somewhere that Google Analytics also getting this user interface upgrade. Today I noticed home page also getting the latest UI makeover, not internally but only on the sign in page.

The new homepage is very much appealing to the new bloggers to choose as a blogging platform. It looks more like a landing page specifically to make conversions.

The reason could be the increasing popularity of the WordPress platform which has now become an affordable choice for the beginners as well. I hope you know about the cheap domains and hosting plans. If you are not yet aware of how to choose a best hosting service, read this article.

Sadly no changes are made to the internal dashboard and options. On scrolling down the upper fold of the page, little snippet of information about choosing the template is shown. Though, it is not a full revamp, it could be hinting that Blogger also will be bringing changes to its new default templates which are naturally ugly.

If Google revamps it’s new default templates, I’d be one of the first one to ty them out. I even expect some changes to the blogger dashboard interface as well. The stats could be made even better and more informative dynamically. As Google Analytics is already there as a reporting tool from Google, no uniqueness might be seen but the sub-application of Analytics can be implemented.

Do you expect some UI changes in the Blogger dashboard just as I do? What they could be? Share your thoughts in comments below.

Google AdSense Gets User Interface Changeover

Google AdSense gets the user interface changeover yesterday to that of the similar style as of Google Plus lately. Everything in the UI is made device friendly, bigger and full screen.

The menu is sidelined vertical just like as the new Google Plus interface pushes it. The rest of the screen with the current day stats are background colored with the mono blue color which was green dollars on the white background with the daily growth report previously.

The new user interface implements the short and quick reports in various perspectives which we actually didn’t see in older one unless we click on the ‘performance reports’ menu option.

The good thing is that you can drag and drop the quick report modules/widgets on the home screen and pin them according to the need.

Revamped Vertical Menu

The new user interface not only changed the home and menu but also the internal options and mechanism of ad unit creation and reporting.

We are given separate control panels for creating and managing normal ad units and page-level ads. The matched content is unit creation unit is included in the normal ads creation panel with a separate option. You can see the two options given in the ‘Ad units’ panel for creating the normal ad units and matched content in the above screenshot.

The menu is also revamped with the separate control panels for content, search and video. The ‘Ad styles’ option is also brought out of the ad creation panel and made available separately so that you can now create ad styles with out need to click on ‘create ad unit’ button again.

We can now block and allow ads more easily on each site separately. The new AdSense user interface is better, more under-friendly and easy to make decision with quick reporting widgets on the home page. I liked it! What about you? Did you like the new AdSense user interface? Share your thoughts in comments below.

Made by Google, Google Pixel Impresses the Elite Android Users

Believe it or not Google Pixel is the first “Made by Google” where the best hardware meets the best software. With all the buzzes and expert views making rounds one can be pretty sure that iPhone got a direct rival and reasons to worry. It is available for pre-orders across USA, UK, Germany, Canada and Australia from October 6th its first shipping is expected to start from October 20th. Pre-ordering facility is available for India from October 13th so. Indian enthusiasts need not wait a lot to pre-order.

Google Pixel has predictably ticked all the boxes when it comes to specifications. It focused on key areas built-in Google Assistant with which you can easily get 24/7 artificial intelligence support available over chat or through phone including screen sharing option. Pixel highlights top class photography experience, Google Cloud so that one never runs out of space (eve after uploading photos of original size).

Pixel is built up from the ground for virtual reality with the Daydream VR. It is the first time phone to have Daydream VR for the best VR experience for its users. 143.8 x 69.5 x 8.5mm dimensioned phone is 143g by weight. It makes a splash and dust resistant body, but it disappointed the fans who were looking for a dual SIM. It has only one nano-SIM slot.

When it now comes to display it has a high resolution 16M colored 5 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen. with body to screen ratio of 69 percent which are considered appropriate by the smart-phone critics.

This phone ensures multi-touch as well as protection of the screen. So, for protection, it has the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4. When it comes to platform, everyone are expected to have high hopes on Google. But, it has not matched the soaring hopes though the platform that does not seem disappointing with the latest in-built system.

It comes with v7.1 (Nougat) Android OS. Andorid Nougat makes sure that you get a fast system and security updates. As system updates will happen in the background you can keep on using public phone normally.

Pixel runs on Snapdragon 821 processor. The CPU and Adreno 530 GPU are quad-core (2x2.15 GHz Kryo & 2x1.6 GHz Kryo) enabling fastest graphics and animation rendering capability. When it comes to memory it has 4GB RAM and allows up to whopping 128 GB storage, but regrettably it does not possess an external storage slot. When it comes to camera one can say it is the best damn-thing-ever-smart-phone-camera. The primary camera is about 12 MP with f/2.0, phase detection & laser auto-focus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash. The main features of primary camera are 1/2.3" sensor size, 1.55µm pixel size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama. It also has a 8MP secondary camera with f/2.4, 1/3.2" sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size and 1080p video recording.

When it comes to sound it has a highly appreciable sound quality with active noise cancellation feature. With all the features matching the expectations battery is also not disappointing at this phone. It has non-removable Li-ion 2770mAh Battery. It also supports fast charging as the experts say only 15 minutes of charging can let the phone run up to 7 hours.

After seeing at all the features many would be expecting that this phone’s price may be exceeding the price of the latest iPhones but surprisingly Google Pixel is set to be launched in India with a price Rs.57,000 (starting price). This can divert iPhone users to Google which may lead Apple to scratch its head over the direct rivalry with Google edging it with ease. So, if you are eager to experience the Gen-Next smartphones then missing Google pixel will be a decision you may regret.

How to Know the Birthday of a Person with Gmail ID?

Birthday is not a public piece of information that one can show off. It isn’t even displayed publicly on an internet profile unless the user wants to share it. So, this following technique is not actually a hack but a feasibility of the Google/Gmail technological interconnection.

Expected reader’s knowledge level: Smartphone users, Gmail ID account holders.

Everyone has an email ID today because of the smartphones. As the android, which takes the 80+ percentage of all smartphone users, need a Gmail account integration to work with the promised functionality. This integration is synchronizing the data onto Google clouds eventually.

So, keep that in mind as I walk you along the process of finding out the birthday of a person with Gmail ID.

If you even wanted to know the birthday of a person and you know their email ID (Gmail), just add them to your contacts.

If you even closer to them and have rapport to communicate over email. Send them an how-about email and let it be added to your contacts automatically.

You don’t need to add them specifically if communication is established on both ends with that email ID. By this, their email ID will be added to your contacts.

Now, take your android phone and add the email ID of that person to his number in your contacts (if had any).

Go to sync settings and sync Google calendar with your native calendar app. This will synchronize all the important dates and birthdays onto your mobile phone calendar.

Now open the calendar app on your Android phone and check what has been updated. You would see new birthdays added to your calendar. If you had added the email ID to the phone number, it would be much easier to identify the birthday of that person. It will then show the birthday with the name that you have given in your contacts to him/her.

It’s that simple!

This is the Reason Why Google Celebrates Birthday on Different Dates | Confusions Clarified on Google Birthday Date & Doodle

Google needs no introduction and its birthday either. Because you might have seen it displaying this following doodle for the year of 2016, as its birthday.

By 2016, Google turns 18 and is officially an adult now. The confusion among the dates of Google’s birthday leaves some fuses of Larry Page and Sergey Brin’s belief in calendars.

In 1998, the official Google birthday was marked on the September 27th (the same day now after 18 years). But, later it was observed on September 8th till its 6th birthday. Later in 2004, the birthday doodle went live on September 7th which is a day prior to last year’s. In 2005, it was observed on September 26th and in 2006 it was seen on September 27th again.

Ryan Germic writes to the users about celebrating Google birthday on different dates on its 15th birthday. He says that the first Google birthday doodle was posted even before the company is officially incorporated. You can read this Wikipedia article informing that the Google was founded on September 4th 1998 officially.

No birthday doodle on

For your surprise, we have tried to check the Google’s birthday doodle on which showed nothing but the regular logo.

Isn’t that surprising?

Of course it is! I think you have fund a clue why Google celebrates different birthdays by this simple check.

Still didn’t get it? See some more examples below

It is showing the birthday doodle on (we are from India after all) and when we tried to open, it showed a normal logo.

We didn’t stop. We tried it fro some more location specific domains. Here is what we found: (United Kingdom):

gogole-uk-birthday-doodle (Angola): (Costa Rica):

Every .co.xx Google domain we have seen is having this birthday doodle displayed. We didn’t quit yet. We moved onto (check) non .co.xx domains as well. Some of such kind of domains are structured as and www.Google.xx. All such domains other than is displaying the birthday doodle all over the globe.

I hope you understand why Google celebrates different birthdays by now. Before you thank me in comments below, learn more about Google company information.

Google Ban Websites With These Sidebar Widgets

Google remind webmasters about the unnatural links in the sidebars and in the other areas of the site that just pass the link juice to the directed ones. Google has warned webmaster about the unnatural linking in the past which resulted in the banning of several sites that participated in the widget baiting, blog spamming and link exchanging.

This action taken by Google had made it clear that it won’t be tolerating the manipulating links to the websites that manipulate the search engine rankings.

We're distrusting some links to your site. We often take this action when we see a site that is mostly good but might have some spammy or artificial links pointing to it (widgetbait, paid links, blog spam, guestbook spam, excessive article directory submissions, excessive link exchanges, other types of linkspam, etc.) – Google about spammy backlinks back in 2012.

If you had taken proper actions before Google by removing the links from your sites, you are the luckiest one. But Google now taken it more seriously and announced that it will ban the sites that either be linked from sidebar widgets or provide links to.

That means those who are getting inbound links from the widgets of websites and those who are giving these links from the widgets on their sites will be eligible for penalization. The widgets that credit the developer and his/her website with a hyperlink at the bottom are the ones you should be watchful about.

Widgets like mutual content advertisers (the ones that are a trend these days to promote one another’s blog posts on each other’s blog.), counters, video Ad snippets from 3rd-party widgets and other kind of widget scripts from freelancers are coming with the crediting links in the bottom in very tiny fonts. Though these look unharmful, these might become the reason for penalization of your site.

How to tackle with these kind of widgets?

There are 3 ways to tackle these kind of widgets. They are simple and mutually exclusive to one another. These methods are as prescribed by the Google web spam team itself.

1. Make the crediting hyperlinks at the bottom of the widget a ‘nofollow’. Adding rel=’nofollow’ will make them neutral and pulls you back on to the safe shore.

2. Remove the links entirely from your site to stay out of the banning list.

3. If you cannot control the neutralizing or removing of credit links from your side as a webmaster, just remove the entire widget.

If you had already get any warning message in your webmaster console, submit your reconsideration request to Google after taking the any of the above actions.

Share this news to your friends and team to alert them. Thank you for reading!

Will Android Instant Apps Kill the Smartphone Flagship Tradition?

The best of the Google I/O 2016 I’ve known is the Android Instant Apps. As we have seen in the past, Instant Apps load like a website on the android devices with Jelly Bean and above without being installed.

The Google’s intention of making the user access the app in a very few click as possible can be achieved. But this will show some side effect on the smartphones’ flagship configurations.

Wondering how? Read more..

During 1GB RAM times, the smartphones are considered to be great with such a lot of physical memory on board. Later, with the next versioning of the Android operating system, the necessity for more physical memory has also been increased.

The reason is the OS alone started consuming a lot of memory, say 1GB at least to run. If a device had 2GB of RAM, the rest of the 1GB is used for the apps. This is very close situation to those 1GB RAM devices of the past but masqueraded by the on-paper specification of 2GB RAM on board.

With only 1GB left for apps, one cannot use more than 5-6 apps on the device as they occupy it to run some background services always. This couldn't satisfy the hunger for more apps. By the way, one can install as many apps as one can until the ROM fills in.

Later with the launch of smartphone startup companies and their new flagship devices with 3GB and 4GB RAM on board have satisfied the hunger of having more apps on the phone. Smartphones like OnePlus One and Asus Zenfone 2 have set some standards in the industry for flagship for their competitors.

Now let’s get back to the story;

Those 2GB RAM devices are good enough to run web browsers on the devices and they are good for running some apps with exclusive usage of system resources. Instant apps, as we know are not necessarily be installed on the device, can run without any lag as the code and services will be loaded in modular basis from the Google servers.

Does this give you any catch?

If that happens, what’s the need of having powerful flagship devices spending hundreds of dollars. The smartphones flagships in different pricing scales that are available now would have to come down with the prices. Don’t you think?

Android Instant Apps & Smartphones Flagship Tradition

It is not always about the on board memory. Flagship includes new hardware and new processors. Some processor need the most of the memory to give their best in performance.

If we take an example of Asus Zenfone 2 with Intel Atom processor, it would consume more RAM than the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. So, it’s not just the apps and other software that consume the memory it’s the processor capability too.

Google have already invited the developers to include the instant app modules in their future apps and upgrade the old ones. That means, the new apps might not need any new hardware specifically.

On the flipside, some application with heavy graphics like games cannot be instantiated. Because, they need the real resources from the native device to run smoothly. To run applications of those kind, we might need the flagship tradition to go on.

Android apps that can be instantiated would be the shipping apps, paying apps, particular shops, or product apps for checkout, news apps, information apps, form filling apps, enquiry apps and some social media apps.

Apps like games, and graphics applications might not be possible to instantiate. So, we would need the flagships for those that cannot be made Instant apps.

Android Instant apps might not kill the flagship tradition completely but might slowdown its rate for budget category phones.

Understanding How Android Instant Apps Work in an Easy Way

Google has announced a new word in the #IO16 along with the messaging and video calling apps, Android Instant Apps to enable the quick accessing of power and flexibility of android.

Instant apps doesn’t need installation. Yes, They don’t!

In fact, there is nothing to do with what Android (at least Jellybean 4.1) phone do you have. You no need to install any special software or need any upgrade to your hardware. Android Instant Apps work faster, safer and functional.

What are Android Instant Apps actually?

Android Instant Apps are just android application that run without need to install them on the device.

Let me bring out an example, Your friend has shared a video link from the Super Videos (let’s assume) app through WhatsApp messenger. When you click on the click from your phone, it, instead of asking the user to install the app (which is what happening so far), will open the app itself like a website instantly and show you the content.

Let’s consider another example, you went for shopping and the shop gives some exclusive discounts on some products if bought only from their app. You don’t have enough space on the device for app installation but you want the app to avail the discount. Then if you can access the instant app link of that particular product to checkout.

How is it possible? How apps can run without installing?

Interesting. Isn’t it?

The Google’s intention behind introducing the instant articles is that they want to reduce the breadcrumbs to reach the target page of content. They want people access the app in just a few clicks and get their job done.

To enable such access, Google has introduced a new update to the Android with some Instant App modules that generate the content with instant access.

That’s okay! But how do they open without installing?

Remember I told you about the friend sharing a link? Yes, the apps with Instant App code modules will be hosted on the Google servers automatically and will be served on to the devices on request and requirement.

I guess a clean picture will help you understand well:

Let us suppose the green triangle as the Google Server/Google Play Store, the two orange rectangles as two android smartphones and the grey circle as the external source such as internet.

The both android phones can download the application from the Google Play Store as usual if they want to use it or, they can access the particular piece of functionality of the application through the link shared in between the phones or provided from the other sources of the internet.

The application works the same either ways and is fast, reliable and secure too.

Google have already updated some of the famous applications as the instant apps that can be accessed as we have discussed above. They are BuzzFeed, B&H Photo, Hotel Tonight, Zumper and Disney. Google announces the access to developers to turn their apps into Instant apps.

Meet Google’s New Messaging and Video Calling Apps at IO16

Google has introduced two new messaging and video calling apps in IO16, the Google I/O event of 2016. These two app are named ‘Allo’ and ‘Duo’ and are developed to change the experience of messaging and video calling.

Those who are already using Hangouts app on the phone will migrate to Allo and Duo just like people migrated on to Inbox from default Gmail app. The two apps differ a lot in user experience.

Meet Allo, the smart messaging app

Allo messaging application is smart and makes your conversations more expressive. All the contacts in the phone will be integrated to the application once installed. You can start conversations with the contacts right after the installation and setup.

The smart features will keep the conversations flowing and get things down with semi-automation. It learns from the user and determines to choose the replies based on the message received and give them as suggestions.

If someone is uses ‘lol’ more than ‘haha’, the app suggests the word ‘lol’ at appropriate time. It happens the same with the ‘haha’ if it is widely used. The machine learning nature helps the conversations flow faster and butter smooth.

Allo comes with the Google assistant that allows you to search the information right from the app. You can chat one-on-one with Google assistant or make calls in a group chat. There is no need to switch among the apps to book a dinner that was fixed in the conversation, set a bet  and check the scores of the match that was going on.

Along with the maps and video sharing, Allo allow users to translate conversations right on the go. This feature will be very helpful for those who will be using the native language keyboard for convenience.

Meet Duo, the new video calling app

Duo is a simple and fast video calling application made to work in the all bandwidth conditions. Hoping that it would work with the low bandwidth internet connections too unlike Hangout app.

It is a full screen video calling app with no cluttering UI elements. This app features the live video preview of the caller on the screen while it’s ringing. The preview will establish full communication between both the parties when you answer the call.

Duo can self-adjust the video quality based on the network quality. It can render HD video up to 720p quality. It can transition calls between the cellular and Wi-Fi networks without the call drops efficiently.

And everything that goes to ear to ear is encrypted.

Google is planning to bring both these apps for both Android and iOS in coming months in this year itself.

Be with us on social media channels to know when it is released. Because, we can’t wait to experience them too.

The data that is not used will be credited to the next month and if you have used a bit more extra, you will be charged $10 per every GB.

How does Project Fi work?

Normal mobile phones connect to the network cells that will involve only the towers of that particular network carrier. If you go outside the cell, your mobile phone will loose the signal until another cell network is caught. Even while switching between cells, the mobile phones disconnect calls, fails sending messages and causes other network interruptions unless retried in the new cell network.

Google Project Fi technology hold the support of multiple network carriers, selects the best network for the device and switches among them intelligently basing on the speed and quality of the network sensed. Take a look at the diagram for better understanding.

Let’s suppose the blue hexagons are the Network X’s cells and yellow hexagons the Network Y’s. The mobile phones using X’s carrier network will get signal until they stay inside the cells. If they enter the ‘connection gap’ area, the possibility of getting the network is zero unless the network carrier Y is associated with X to provide roaming network which is impossible all the times.

Project Fi technology comes with an .apk application for Android that takes the responsibility of intelligent switching over the networks including the non-network carriers like Wi-Fi hotspots. This technology uses another network (2G/3G/4G/Wi-Fi) in the ‘connection gap’ area without the intervention of connections.

That means if you are talking over VoIP while in journey and is pulled out of your network carrier’s cell, the Fi network will catch the nearby high quality signal either from another carrier or from Wi-Fi hotspot thus saving your data over the network. The prioritization of network selection would be handled by the Fi Android app.

Is Project Fi available in my country?

Google provides Project Fi services in 120+ countries including India with unlimited texts, low cost calls and $10 per GB plan. However, the plans and rates differ for different countries.

Check if your country has Google Fi network coverage from this link:

How To Improve Your Mobile Search Ranking After The Mobile-Friendly Update (April 2015)?

Mobile-friendliness is what matters for Google now. The search engine giant has taken the mobile friendliness as a ranking signal. Many website owners who have not yet adapted the responsive design should hurry up in order not to lose traffic from small screen devices.

The mobile phone traffic has increased exponentially over the past few years. Search engines like Google took the issue seriously and to facilitate the growing mobile users, announced that they will be considering mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal from April 21st of 2015.

As said, Google started the update rolling out since then. Bloggers and website owners who already had responsive templates installed on their blogs and websites relaxed and the ones who didn’t, started worrying so much after this update.

If you have website on ‘Blogger’ and your responsive template is not actually working on the mobile devices, go through this recent post that will help you to get along with the settings and get back the power of responsiveness.

In fact, having a responsive template is not enough. The message ‘Awesome! This page is mobile-friendly’ will not help you rank higher for mobile search traffic. You need to make sure that your site is following the Google’s site design principles. If it is not, there is no difference between having a responsive and non-responsive template.

In this article, I will be discussing those principles and their core intention of being specified. Tuck yourself in a seat, learn, implement them for your website and improve your mobile search ranking.

#1 Place calls-to-action elements correctly

If yours is a selling site, you should consider this principle very seriously.

Keep the call-to-action elements on the page in a place where you think users will see them. Consider keeping them mostly in the upfold of the page.

Expecting users to scroll down the page or to go to another landing page from the loaded one will frustrate them. So, design elements as shown in the left picture is not encouraged by mobile-friendly algorithm.

#2 Optimize navigation menus

An extensive navigation menu on a mobile screen will not only look large but also is massive to navigate through it.

If you look at the mega menu of Amfas Tech, you could notice it shrinking down when opened in a mobile device.

It then is easy to navigate through the side without dragging the screen horizontally for menu items.

#3 Let them get back to home page

Let us suppose a situation as a blogger. We write long articles, really long articles sometimes that even crosses 4000 words. Some topics deserve the long word count. When our readers come to our site and read that article, they will go deep down the page by scrolling down. How frustrating would it be for them if they can’t get back to the home page in a blink? Just think.

Fix the header/logo of the site on the top of the site for mobile screens. It will help your readers get back to the home page in just one click.

For example, you can take a look at this following screenshot of one of the Amfas Tech’s pages with a fixed header/logo on the top:

Users will expect a logo on the top of the page to get back to homepage as per Google studies.

#4 Take care of ads on the site

Google respects this information-first policy on mobile pages too. When someone visits your website or blog, he/she would expect the content that he/she is searching for. If ads overlay the content, they’ll get frustrated and leave the site in fraction of seconds.

Are ads bad for mobile pages?

Definitely not. Why should you lose the value of the quality content that you have created all those hours. Google never said that ads are bad. They always encouraged those kind of ads that are easily dismissable and non-distracting. Check out for issues with your ads as soon as you are finished with this article.

#5 Make search bar visible

When it comes to small screens, users would actually prefer to search most than to navigate through pages. It, in fact would be easy to find information through on-site search bar.

Make sure the site’s search bar is placed in a visible area of the home page itself. Visitors might find it difficult finding the search bar on the home page on a mobile screen. So, placing it in visible area would impress them too.

#6 Make sure of relevant search results

Placing the search bar is not enough though. Make sure the search results shown are relevant to the keyword typed.

Can Google analyze my search logic?

**Why not? Because it’s Google**

No! I really don’t know about Google fully. I’m just messing up with you.

The thing is that if the visitor gets relevant results for his searches on the site, he will stay a bit longer browsing all those relevant links. Having visitors for longer times benefits your site in terms of ‘user engagement time’. You know the rest of the story

#7 Implement filters to search

According to the research conducted by Google, mobile internet users expect to see the search filters that say ‘sort by’ and ‘filter by’ on site’s home pages, that too mainly on ecommerce websites.

Implementing filters on blogs with category names or tags also makes the blog look easy to navigate and beautiful too.

#8 Guide users properly to get better results

For websites that allow sales of products and services, it is advised to provide proper guidance along with the search filters.

It makes the visitors land right on the required content page where they can get right information within reasonable waiting time.

#9 Do not popup registration forms too early

Catching the subscribers is important but we should not force them to subscribe prior they see the content. This will not only send away the incoming traffic as soon as they enter the site, but also discourages them to visit the site back in future. Impression is what matters in case of subscribers and visit-backers.

#9 is not the last number

All the above 9 points that we have discussed are basic guidelines that Google suggests for every site. Google also provides guidelines for ecommerce sites in specific along with these.

Apart from Google’s suggestions, there is a lot to optimize a website. You can optimize your best to make the site look more handy and easy-to-use for the users. If you want to check out some coding suggestions, I’d recommend you to check out the latest post on Aha-Now blog on mobile friendliness.

Remember, Google will always appreciate the content that follows the information-first and user-feasibility guidelines.

Don’t forget to tell me when you are done optimizing your website for mobile.

All the best!
