Using MailChimp Email Campaigns–MailChimp Basics

MailChimp is one the best email marketing services available on the internet for internet marketers to send, track and monitor the promotional emails.

MailChimp is used by both companies and individuals. Companies use it to market their products and services. Individuals like bloggers use it to promote their content and affiliate products.

There available several beautiful and professional email templates to be used for free. In this article, we are going to see how to create and manage email campaigns using MailChimp.

Creating Email Campaigns

1. Go to MailChimp.com and log in with your credentials.
2. Click on Campaigns >> Create Campaign.
3. Choose a type of email you wanted to create and click ‘Select’.
4. Select the recipient's list to whom you want to send the email to, and click ‘Next’.
5. Provide the campaign info in the respective fields shown in the form.
6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to set tracking and social media share options and click ‘Next’.
7. Choose a template from the given list and click ‘Select’. If you don’t want to choose a template and wanted to create your own, simply click ‘Next’.

8. You will now be redirected to design phase where you can design your email message according to your design requirements.

Note 1: Redesigning a chosen template layout would be easier than that of the empty template.

Note 2: Some email formats like ‘plain-text campaigns’ will not show you the template selection step.

9. After you are done with designing the template, click ‘Next’ to continue the next step.

10. This is the last step of creating an email campaign. You’ll be asked to review the campaign options once before you finish the process.

If any issues were found, ‘resolve’ them before you finish the campaign set up process.

11. After you are done with creating a campaign, you will now be shown two buttons, ‘Send’ and ‘Schedule’ in the place of ‘Next’.

If you wanted to send the email quickly, choose to click on ‘Send’ or if you wanted to schedule it to be delivered at a particular time, choose ‘Schedule’.

Note: RSS Feed emails will not show you ‘Send’ and ‘Schedule’ buttons upon finishing.

Clicking on ‘Send’ button will show you ‘Prepare for launch’ pop up window. One click on ‘Send’ will send the email to the selected list of recipients.

Managing Email Campaigns

You can manage MailChimp email campaigns from your dashboard. After logging into your MailChimp account, go to ‘Campaigns’ tab and you can see the active and inactive email campaigns on the board.

Each campaign might show you different options according to the priorities you have chosen while creating the campaign.

For example, take a look at the following screenshot showing ‘View Report’ option for ‘Sample Newsletter’ and ‘Sent Campaigns’ option for RSS feed campaign.

One-time sent email campaigns show you ‘View Report’ option to track the engagement of the recipients on that email.

Repeated sending campaigns like ‘RSS Feed Newsletters’ will show you the ‘Sent Campaigns’ option to track each campaign separately.

You can also choose to stop the campaigns by deleting or by pausing them individually. One-time emails won’t show up ‘Pause’ option whereas the repeated campaigns will.

That’s it! you have now learned about creating email campaigns on MailChimp. Hope it helped you so.
