Acer Aspire V5-123 Netbook Review

Netbooks are no hand bulky machines anymore. The 11 inch machine from Acer proves the fact. Acer Aspire V5-123 Netbook possess all the qualities of a ultrabook in its design. It almost looks like an ultrabook with the slimmest, sleek and glassy design. Let’s take a ride through the technical specifications that decide the worthiness of the machine.

Acer Aspire V5-123 review

Design

The sleek design of this computer gives the ultrabook look as discussed previously. Everything is put neatly where they ought to be. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and DVD-RW optical drive with in that low price value.

What’s interesting is that its silver glassy finish with metallic Acer logo on the lid cover. The edge-to-edge screen with 1366x768 HD pixels matters when it comes to the sharpness of the picture you see on it. It is equipped with AMD Radeon HD 8210 graphical processor that allows moderate games to run smoothly.

The Aspire V5 has a web camera on the top middle notch of the lid with not enough quality to identify people on video calls. It ain’t no HD.

The silver lining on the screen with black boarder inside around looks attractive but looks odd when the lid is closed. May be Acer was trying to put on some Mac look  on its design.

The keys are big and bold with comfortable spacing in between them. Though they are, they are little slippery while typing. This would definitely decrease your speed of typing a little.

The mouse-pad is made button less. It recognizes multiple touches at the same time. You can pinch zoom, scroll and swipe with the mouse pad. It recognizes gestures better.

I would give V5 3 out of 5 for its design.

Processor, Memory and Performance

The APU dual core processor with 1GHz speed can’t give the performance anticipated from Acer Aspire series. It is literally disappointing. Smart phones can perform with more than 1GHz today. In such a advancement, 1GHz is a pull back.

The V5 comes with 2GB and 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD which is impressive for that cost but it can’t be made the most of with 1GHz processor.

The Windows 8 operating system is smooth, fast and fluid. Work flows faster than ever before until it not shared with another. The V5 is also available on Linux. The dual core processor can’t make it with such a low speed. Smart phones with octa-core processor have already released.

I would give 1 out of 5 for its performance.

Wrapping up

The Acer Aspire V5 is a pretty sleek laptop at first glance. But don’t be fooled by its silky-smooth silver exterior – there’s not a whole lot going on inside this laptop. Sure, it’s got its strengths: the touchscreen is responsive and smooth, and video looks and sounds pretty good. But it’s got a heck of a lot more weaknesses, such as poor overall performance, lower-than-average battery life, a strangely loud fan, and a noticeably low screen resolution.
