How to Choose the Best Type of Power Bank

Today, the fastest growing type of charging electronic on the market are power banks. That’s because power banks are portable chargers that are able to go with us anywhere that we want. Most of the time we use USB wall chargers and the main flaw with them is that we have to stay close to them in order to charge our devices. This is a major problem when it comes to charging because we have things to do and places to be. Charging is something that we need and yet it holds us down at the same time.

Power banks solve the problem with having to stay in a single spot and charging our devices. With that said, as popular as power banks are, there are quite a lot of companies that now sell them. This is a good and bad thing. The good part is that there’s a lot of innovation that happens with power banks because there’s more competition. On the bad side though, there are quite a lot of companies that sell low-quality power banks that have poor traits and stop working after just a few weeks or months.

In this article, I’ll be going over the major points of a power bank that you should look out for when you’re purchasing one and what the best types are on the market.

Power capacity and size

power-capacity-and-size

The power capacity is a major part of a power bank because it’s basically the integral part of one since it’s the piece of it that you’ll be using the most. Depending on what the power capacity is, a power bank may be able to charge a smartphone only once or it can charge a smartphone and other devices multiple times over with its power capacity. Which brings us to the two main types of power banks on the market.

Low capacity

Power banks that have low power capacities that are within the 3,000mAh to 5,000mAh range are the most used. The reason being is that they have small sizes and they’re lightweight. The power capacity of a power bank is correlated with the size and weight of the portable charger. In this case, these power banks are so small that they’re able to fit into your pocket or you can hold them while you charge your smartphone.

low-capacity

However, these Mini power banks are not meant for multiple charges and most of them are only able to last for just a single full charge. They also only have a single charging port, so you can only charge a single device at a time and most of them don’t have the fastest charging speeds either. If you’re searching for more power, then it’s best to go for power banks that have higher power capacities.

High capacities

Power banks that have high power capacities are ones that are used a lot less and the reason for that is because they have larger sizes and heavier weights. The reason behind that is because they have higher power capacities, which means there are more batteries being used and larger ones as well. As a result, you won’t be fitting these type of power banks into your pocket and neither are you able to hold them for long periods of time.

high-capacity

However, on the powering side, these power banks are highly useful as you’re able to charge devices like smartphones, tablets, and even laptops to full power. They also use multiple charging ports, which means that you can charge lots of devices at once. What high capacity power banks also excel in is that they have special charging tech like Quick Charge and USB-C to charge compatible devices at their max charging speeds.

Know the amount of charging ports and their speeds

For the most part, a power bank that has numerous charging ports are ones that have high power capacities. The main reason for that is because they have more power that they’re able to split up without being fully depleted. It’s important to know that just because a power bank has many charging ports doesn’t mean that it’s a high-quality one. You must know the charging speed of each of those ports.

charging-ports-and-speeds

A power bank can have 3 USB ports but if all three of those port have a charging speed of 1 Amp, then that’s bad; because charging speed of 1 Amp isn’t going to charge most devices at their max speeds.

Instead, a good charging speed for a 3 port power bank is for each of those USB ports to have a charging speed of 2.4A. That’s because a 2.4A charging speed is a Max Standard charging speed. It’s basically a speed that is able to charge devices that are not compatible with Quick Charge or USB-C at their max charging speed. Most smartphones and tablets like iPads are able to achieve max speed. However, if you have a Quick Charge or USB-C compatible smartphone, then you should get a power bank that has those charging technologies.

Power banks brands are important

Since there are a lot of power banks brands on the market, you have to be careful from whom you’re purchasing your charger from. As I stated at the beginning of this article, there are a lot of companies that sell power banks that are low quality. These low qualities include: having a very large size for its power capacity, slow charging speed, and low build qualities that make the power bank stop working after just a few weeks or months. The worst thing is that these companies don’t have warranties most of the time.

importance-of-brands

You have to keep a lookout for companies that have a lot of positive reviews with not only their power banks but also with their other products. The brands that hold value with their power banks are the ones that innovate constantly and release new products frequently. They also have long warranties that prove that they’re positive that their products hold value and quality or else you’ll be getting your money back or a replacement.

Original Procedure to Replace Your Faulty Samsung Galaxy Note 7?

So, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7s are officially recalled. That means you can get a replacement of your current (faulty battery) Galaxy Note 7 with a new one. You won’t need to spend another penny on this process. This whole process is taken responsibility by the Samsung itself for the sake of customer safety of their premium customers (after all they are the ones who survive a company from being turning down).

samsung-galaxy-note-7-recall

Countries in which already got the Samsung Galaxy Note 7s sold will be getting the replacement in the late weeks of September and those which are yet to get it launched (like as in India) will be getting it with a little more delay. The pre-bookings will be getting a free Gear VR (latest version) along with the device as a compensation for the waiting.

The battery cell issue is not full detailed on the Samsung website but given a notice about the replacement call.

Don’t take exchanging of Galaxy Note 7 easily

It is not as easy as taking your device to the Samsung service center and get it replaced. There are certain proceedings you must remember. Before we go through the procedure, you better know that Samsung is speeding up the replacement all over the world by September 21st of this year. So gather up things that you need to carry along. Possible add the following in your list.

#1 Take the whole package of your Samsung galaxy Note 7 including all the accessories and the box as well.

#2 Take the invoice or the bill along with you. Bill is necessary of course.

#3 Take a backup of your data including the phone numbers, photos, calendar entries and documents at your home before you take it to replacement.

#4 Note down the IMEI number of the current Galaxy Note 7. You can dial *#06# for checking your IMEI number or you can find it in Settings.

#5 After taking backup, factory reset your device and make sure no personal data exists on it anymore.

How to identify the replacement?

It is important to make sure that you got the correct replacement for your faulty Galaxy Note 7. In order to identify the new Galaxy S7, check for the following icons and symbols on the package as shown below.

whitesticker
A valid replacement will have the following details on the package.

#1 A blue ‘S’ mark

#2 A small black square

#3 Unique IMEI number

Samsung fears Apple iPhone 7

The fact why Samsung is taking this very prestigious is that the Apple has already introduced the new iPhone into the market, the iPhone 7. As the buzz for iPhone 7 is not that vibrating, this might benefit Samsung to hold their Galaxy Note 7 customers till replacement.

Hope that helps!

How To Find Printer Ink For Old Laser Jet Printing Systems

Buying a new printer is always very exciting, but after a while you run out of ink. Finding out exactly which ink cartridge you need to replace and where you can find it is often a difficult and frustrating journey.

Then, the process of replacing the cartridge itself can be challenging. You may also find that a replacement ink cartridge can cost almost as much as a new printer. Read on to learn how to find printer ink for old laser jet printing systems and avoid getting frustrated with your printer system.

printer-ink-for-old-laser-jet-printing-systems[5]

The Problem With Ink

Many consumers are frustrated with the methods profitable printer companies use to force consumers to purchase ink, whether it’s more expensive, incompatible with your printer model, or simply inefficient and quick to deplete. For example, many may have experienced that after purchasing a new printer the included cartridges last for only a few prints before expiring. Subsequently, refill cartridges are sold for nearly the same cost, if not more, than the printer itself.

Another business tactic that many consumers have encountered is the requirement to have all ink colors filled before printing, even if they’re only printing in black and white. Some believe these are schemes to make printing companies more money. However, a few printing giants, like HP, have claimed that they have spent years trying to lower the cost of making new cartridges.

Replacement Ink or a New Printer?

Inkjet printers are becoming more and more affordable, while new replacement cartridge prices are staying the same. The gap between the cost of a printer and the cost of ink cartridges is becoming exceedingly wide.

If you have an old laser printer, you may be wondering if you should just buy a whole new printer rather than track down the specifics of your cartridge. Before you choose the very impractical route of buying a whole new printer, consider the alternatives.

Check the Box

Many new printers come with a fresh ink cartridge stored in the box as part of the printer purchase. Check to see if you still have the original box—you may find a backup cartridge there. If you have the instruction manual, you can find the model numbers for the ink cartridge you need.

printer-manual[5]

Call the Printer Company

Calling or emailing the company who made your printer is always a good place to start. You can inquire about where you can find a new cartridge based on the specifications of your printer. The key in this first step is to get the proper model number on your cartridge. Without this information, you may find it exceedingly difficult to properly replace your ink.

Compare Prices at Third-Party Vendors

The problem of expensive replacement cartridges comes about primarily when you try to buy officially branded ink from the same maker as the printer you own. Buying a replacement cartridge from your printer company is like taking your car back to the dealership for a tune-up—it’s going to cost a lot more than what smaller retailers will charge.

Online vendors have a deep inventory of ink cartridges that match many laser jet printers. There’s no reason to toss your old printer just because it’s out of ink and you’re not sure where to get more. Check the stocked inventory of any reputable vendor to keep your faithful laser printer running for another few years.

Although printer ink is a giant industry, it can be difficult to find the right cartridge to fit your model. However, with the right amount of research and insight, it is possible to effectively save on costs, avoid poor quality cartridges, and fulfill your printing needs.

How Not to Overspend and Save Money on Hard Drives

Hard drives are the physical and accessible stage devices that we are using in this technology era. Mechanical, SSD or Cloud, whatever you call it by the name, the data will finally has to store in a physical device.

You might have learnt in the school days that computers’ hardware is perishable and can worn out with time. Of course, hardware would. Because they will be made form the earthly available materials only.

The bottom line is that we end up buying a new hard drive if anything goes wrong with the existing one. Sometime it is not about the buying a new hard drive, it is about saving the money.

save-money-on-hard-drive
Any hard drive with emulators and heavy tools installed will worn out sooner than expected. The best way to retreat the investment of money on new HDDs is to avoid ignoring the health status of the devices.

We have many HDD health showing tools available for both Windows, Mac and Linux. Some of these tools not only monitor the status of the health of the hard drive but also provide simple options to defrag, delete junk and optimize the drives at regular intervals.

Let’s see what should we focus on, in order to save money on hard drives maintenance and while buying them.

Avoid bad and incompatible software

Bad software means the programs that destroy the system software while running. Software like emulators and simulators destroy the hardware by force rendering the capability of the hardware to perform. They even overtake the control of the file system format on the local machines to operate the tools on the emulator with their native environment.

A hard drive of 500GB (suppose) will be divided into 450GB and 50GB (suppose the emulator assigned memory) for the emulator and that chunk of memory will be differently formatted for the native file support the emulator. This leaves the hard drive summarize the total storage on the computer as 450GB.

The emulator assigned memory can be retrieved later after removing the emulator software on the system but, the part of storage that was assigned will dump a lot of junk and bad clusters while re-formatting back to computer’s file format. This leaves the system loss some part of the hard drive storage as dead memory.

Use the emulators rarely. It is always better to buy a specific device or hardware instead of emulating it on the working system.

The less you use the emulators on the computer the less are the chances of hard drive failure. The less the chances of hard drive failure the less the chances of buying a new hard drive. Thus, your money will be saved.

Buy hard drives with large capacity at one time

You may not need the high capacity storage drives for your usage. But the need for data storage will never end. The greed for information will always open doors to storage expansion on your computer.

If you compare the prices of the storage devices, the larger capacity hard drives are cheaper than the lower capacity hard drives. For example, Seagate Expansion 1TB Portable External Hard Drive costs $55 where as same Seagate Expansion with 2TB Portable External Hard Drive costs just $80. The 5TB version of same Seagate Expansion Portable External Hard Drive costs just $130. Hope you got my point.

Buy/expand cloud storage instead of multiple hard drives

You can also save money on hard drives by opting for cloud storages. You can access your data anywhere with a computer having an internet connection. If you wanted to expand the storage, you would be having to upgrade to a higher storage plan. That’s it.

Pricing on the cloud storages will have to be paid monthly. If we take Google Drive as an example, spending $1.99 per month on 100GB monthly is a worthy investment if you are a power data user. Their highest plan is $299.99 for 30TB storage monthly.

If you are running a business, it is completely worth going for Google cloud storage.

Hope that helps!

Lock your Keyboard and Mouse for Kids

After everything has computerized these days, people started using it for watching their favorite shows on them. There available as many live channels online as on TV’s right now. So the world is moving on to the computers, leaving televisions behind the line of past ages. Computers with webcams replaced most of the conventional voice calls with video calls these days.

When you wanted to show a cartoon video or show them your grand parents or relatives over a video call on your computer or laptop to your kids, you need to make sure they don’t bash your keyboard and play with your mouse while the conversation is going on. Because, as these are the actively connected input devices, keying in randomly or letting kids play with your mouse might not only spoil your conversation but also spoils your software. So it is advised not to leave keyboards and mice active while you are using your computers with your kids.

How to keep it safe?

Should you unplug the devices? The answer is No! If you unplug the input devices and if you needed to respond to a simple error or warning notification, would you like to wrap up yourself in wires every time you want to hit a simple click on the ok button?

For this simple problem I have a simple solution for you. There is a portable tool called Key Freeze which freezes/unfreezes the input devices like keyboard and mouse with just one shortcut key combination or a click. You can download it from here.

How to use it?

As told before, the key freeze activates with CTRL+ALT+DEL combination while running it. It can be controlled with mouse too.

Manage Disk Space On Your Computer Like a Professional

Handling hardware tasks especially operations and issues related to hard disks are a bit risky for non-professionals. It is the game of data that you will be playing there, when you lay your hands on your drive operations. If encountered any unfamiliar issues, they will give you sleepless nights.

Managing the disk space on your computer includes resizing, moving and merging the partitions as per the need and converting the disk formats to make them compatible for different operating systems. It would need a professional to perform the tasks with no failure of data safety.

The even better idea is to do it yourself. It not only helps you save the technician service costs but also teaches you how to do it next time for youself or for your neighbor (trust me! You’ll regret helping out your neighbor with his/her computer).

Let’s learn how to manage disk space for yourself

Step 1: Download this disk partition software, named Partition Master Professional from EaseUs software which is an efficient tool for managing the disk space on your computer very well. Its easy-to-use user interface allows any non-professional user take control of their hard disks without any hassle. It helps you create, merge, resize, copy, convert, wipe and defragment specific partition or the whole drive at your wisdom.

I use this software to manage hard disk space on my Windows 7 desktop PC and on my Windows 10 laptop as well.

Yes! It is compatible with Windows 10. That felt like a cherry on the cake when I read about it when I was suffering with the loss of 20GB hard drive space after installing Windows 10 on my Windows 8.1 laptop.

Step 2: After downloading, install it like as any other software on your computer in just few clicks.

I recommend you to buy this software instead of using a 7-day trail because some advanced operations will be restricted of their functionalities (fully) after the trail period.

Step 3: Run the software after installation. It will show the list of your drives and partitions in the home window.

easus-partition-master-pro-home-window-screen

Step 4: Right-click on the drive partition for options.

drive-options-easuus-partition-master-pro

Choose an option of your choice and requirement and click on it to open the respective operation wizard.

What are these options mean and what they do?

The options provided in Partition Master Pro edition are the foremost disk operation options that are available for the disk technologies that we are using. However, a newbie will find it difficult in knowing the difference among them.

I’ll cover up all the options in the software so that you can be confident enough while using it. Also, EaseUs Software provides better support for this software through online and direct email. I’d recommend you to contact them to report any issues regarding the software. Amfas Tech is just covering all its features for your understanding.

Resize/Move Partition

It helps you resize or move an existing partition of the hard drive. You can increase or decrease the partition size or move it entirely onto another.

Points to remember:

  • Resizing partition may shrink or expand the size of the disk partition. You can only expand it if there is any space left empty on the drive or any another partition has been shrunken.
  • To move the space between volumes, there must be an unallocated space (may be the shrunken part from existing volumes) on the disk.

Copy Partition

Copy partition will copy down the whole partition on to another partition. The volume(s) can be duplicated so that you no need to worry about data loss while working on a partition.

Point to remember:

  • Make sure your destination partition have the same size (or more) as of the source partition size.
  • If the destination partition is undersized, the partition copying option may fail or copy only very less data on to the destination volume than existed.

Migrate OS to SSD/HDD

This is a life saver option that I like most. The operating system can be entirely copied on to another drive without losing the software configurations and settings. This option asks you to choose a destination disk to migrate the whole operating system to.

Points to remember:

  • It is not recommended to opt for this option if you are willing to do this operation as a virus removal process. Because, migrating OS will not remove viruses at all, instead copies all the crap onto the new drive also.
  • It is best option to opt, if you are facing any memory clogs with the current hard drive or facing any other disk issues with it and you don’t want to re-install the OS.

Merge Partition

This operation will help you merge more than one partition into one single partition at the possibility of merging two at a time.

Points to remember:

  • You can only merge volumes of same format and that too up to the size of 4TB as per the software capability.
  • You cannot merge boot partition onto system partitions or vice-versa. But, you can merge unallocated disk spaces to any format volumes.
  • EaseUs partition master pro can only merge basic volumes but not dynamic volumes.

Convert to logical

Primary volumes restrict the number of partitions to three/four at maximum. To have another partition along with the limited number of primary volumes, you should convert it into logical as you can add unlimited logical volumes after the primary volume restriction.

Points to remember:

  • You can only convert primary partitions to logical only when your hard disk’s partitioning scheme is MBR.
  • After the primary volume limitation is reached, you have to format the extra volumes to logical to have them shown.

All the above features perform key operations on the hard drive. The remaining options are to optimize it.

Change label – Changes the drive label.

Defragment – Cleans up the fragments chunks of memory on the drive and speeds up the data writing and reading.

Set Active – Sets the active boot partition where there are multiple operating systems on the drive.

Check Partition – Checks errors in the partition and removes them.

Exploration – Explores the content in the drive(s).

Properties – Shows the amount of usage and free memory on the disk.

Wrapping up

You might have got a brief idea and some confidence by now in managing hard disk space on your computer on your own. If you have got any serious problems using the software, you may contact the EaseUs support without any hesitation. I haven’t got any issues so far and hope you won’t find any at your side.

Note: If you are a newbie to computers and not aware of this technological terminology yet, better seek a technician rather spoil your drive and data on it.

How to Save Battery Life of Android Phones

This is an era of smart phones with stupid batteries. No matter how much our battery capacity is, we always find it less to satisfy our non-stop needs. Power bank do come handy. But they also make your phone’s battery weak (in the long run). In this post I will talk about some very easy-peasy ways to save your battery life.

How to Save Battery life of Android Phones

1. Black Wallpaper

dark-wallpaper

I love the color black. Black wallpaper is what I have always used. Little did I know that I have silently adding to my battery life. Now I make it a point to use black wallpaper and advice my friends to do the same.

2. Use dark themes

dark-theme

Sometime back I really developed a thing for trying out new themes. Now I understand why the battery consumption increased drastically. Now I have settled for a decent dark theme to save my Android’s battery life.

3. Say no to Auto-Brightness

auto-brightness

Auto-brightness is cool. Especially, when you have outdoor plans for the day. You may just increase the screen brightness just before stepping out. You can also reduce the screen brightness when you are in a well lit room. I often find the auto-brightness slightly brighter than it should be. If you don’t believe me, compare yourself.

4. Shorter screen timeout

screen-sleep-time

I have kept the minimum screen timeout so that the screen gets locked within a couple of seconds. This was definitely not a battery saving strategy. But it was more of a privacy strategy so that the people around could not read my messages. Now that I know my battery life gets extended with this step, I practice it religiously.

5. Keep your phone cool

I read somewhere that heated smartphones puts an extra load on the batteries. Let’s be honest. Many phones have heating issues. Since you can’t change things internally you can keep a lookout on the external factors. For instance when you are out in the sun, keep the phone in your pocket or bag. You may also keep the phone away from the laptop’s fan or any heated up material or devices as such.

6. Use original batteries/chargers

I have often seen people using local brands for replacing batteries/chargers. Do you know you are doing more harm to the phone by sparing a couple of bucks? So next time when your battery/charger is dead, go for a genuine one. I am sure your battery life will be enhanced with this little step of yours.

7. Sleep Mode ON

sleeptime

You don’t use your mobile when you sleep. Do you? So why not put into the sleep mode? You can make a list of important number and put them in the exception list when the Sleep Mode is active. Also there are times at office or college when you know you won’t get a chance to glance at your mobile, why not activate the Sleep Mode and keep the battery percentage intact.

8. Turn off features

These are smart features that we are talking about that makes your phone smart. For instance the Smart Stay option in Samsung. It’s needless to say these features (and some more similar features) need not be kept ON and you can add to your battery life.

9. Switch off 4G

set-switchoff-4g

4G is the new thing is town. Smartphone and telecoms are trying to woo customer to opt for their services with 4G. But did you know switching on 4G on your smart phone is so much battery consuming. What you can do is switch off 4G and use 2G, and swap when you want to enjoy net services on your Android.

10. Switch off connectivity features

The usual connectivity features in our phones are GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC consume a LOT of battery. Among all this, GPS tops the list of battery consumption. Turn all of them off when you don’t need and add to your battery life.

11. Update your apps

update-apps

Often we get update for the apps on our Android. But do we do it? Not always. Not always the app updates are useless. Sometimes, the update paves the way to a better battery life. Update your apps to enjoy such benefits from the app developer’s.

12. Use battery saving mode of your phone

battery-saving-mode

Most phones come with battery saver’s. Use it as it prevents the battery from draining away. In case you don’t have battery saving mode, install any battery saving app and the app will do the needful for your Android.

13. Update and sync at your own will

Auto-update and auto-sync is surely a blessing as it continuously updates with the Google server and all your important data is just a log in away. But having auto-update or auto-sync running in the background all day long is one of the ways your battery loses its juice. Rather what you can do is manually update and sync once a day.

That would be all from us on ‘How to save your battery life’. Do you have any more method up your sleeves, let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading.

How I Made My Faulty Creative 4.1 Sub-Woofer Speaker Work?

The feeling when you make some faulty thing work will surely make you sit on an iceberg for sure till next sunrise. It was my ‘Creative 4.1’ sub-woofer sound system that made me sit on a mountain today.

It hurts badly for a computer geek when he find his gadgets failing at abnormal times and they spending dis-functional for unknown time long. Don’t lift your eye-brow at me, it proves that you got no emotion chipset configured up there in your head.

I have noticed my 6 year old Creative 4.1 sound system failing to play music in one of the speakers among the four configured. This is how my tests went on:

Test #1: If all speakers are working fine?
This is the first and foremost test that will decide if the problem persists in speakers. Pull out the faulty speaker(s) and test it inserting into another(working) speaker’s port. If it speaks out, the speaker is good. Congratulations, you problem is not solved yet.

Test #2: If any dust obstructing the connectivity?
You know, dust is as inevitable as death. Check if the speaker ports are dusted. Blow off the dust and try to check connecting back the speakers to the ports. If it works, the job is not over yet. Share your story with us in comments below and that’s a request.

Test #3: Should it be opened?

Always believe in yourself, not in Tony Stark in Iron Man. Your homely dress up and geeky mind sometimes fools your identity matching part of your brain. In deed, opening up the sub-woofer without any knowledge of electronics is not a good idea and can give you ‘shock’ treatments. Though you do, don’t take the risk of opening it without testing it against all cases.

Speaker (s) not working

Test #4: If sound drivers are working fine?
Computer also gets sick sometimes. All those software will not wear out stories are not true in case of Windows operating system. Windows is very unstable operating system. Software might frequently wear out because of malware of viruses.

Check if drivers are affected due to recent virus attacks. Re-install drivers if you had recent experiences of virus cleaning activities on your computer.

Test #5: If right/left side speakers are muted?
Happens sometimes. Check your driver software or sound settings if the volume is muted on right/left side speakers particularly. This setting can be seen on audio drivers management software like ‘Realtek HD audio manager’.

Test #6: Have you check out every connection?
I don’t think so. You have only checked out the connection between the speakers and sub-woofer. What about the connection between your computer and the sound system?

Now, check the audio jack connecting CPU and sub-woofer. Check if I is in good condition or wore out. Pull them out and blow the dust off the ports and insert them again. If you have more number of slots than the number of pins, try changing the combination and test the speakers again. Congratulations if it works. If it’s not, decide a date and time to call a technician.

By the way, the last test made my faulty speaker work like before. otherwise, I would have opened the sub-woofer in excitement to check what’s inside. Excitement blind folds the intelligence sometimes. Believe me!

How to Bring Back Your Moto G from Dead?

Death is inevitable! But this is not true in case of digital devices totally. Though they seem dead, they can still be brought back by doing a little CPR(let’s assume).

It is the same in the case of Moto G. In the hard times or when you used the last changed particle in the battery, the phone dies(not actually). It neither switches on nor even charges. You can being it back from dead by doing the following tricks.

fix-moto-g-wont-startup

Trick #1:

Though it shows you like not charging, keep it in charge for 5-10 minutes and try to switch it on. Sometimes batteries die with no single drop of electric juice in them. Keeping them in charging for a little while can bring it back to life.

Trick #2

Do this if only trick #1 is not working. Try pressing the combo of power button and volume down button till it shows up some light or boot menu options on the screen.

Select the option ‘Normal Powerup’ from the list using the volume rocker. It will boot up normally and enjoy the life back on your phone.

Trick #3

This trick is a bit complicated and need your hands on its hardware. Do this only if the above two tricks are not working for you.

Note: Preforming this adventurous tweak might spoil your smartphone if done wrongly. Do it at your own risk. Don’t blame me or amfas tech if you spoil it in your own hands.

(That was not to scare you, but just a formal warning)

Before you do it, make sure you had the right tools with you.

Step 1: Open up the back cover.

Step 2: Take the right screw driver, and remove the battery carefully. Make sure you pulled of the battery connector safely.

Step 3: Eat some snacks and wash your hands neatly.

Step 4: Put back the battery. Make sure you plugged in the battery connector correctly.

Step 5: Put back the back cover and now try to switch it on or try trick #1.

This will help your device back from dead at most probability if the problem lies with battery draining. If it won’t still start up, don’t try your curiosity skills over it. Take it to the service center and let the real technician do the job for you.

How To Install Sound Card In Laptop

The sound card is an integrated on-board in laptop. If you want to improve the sound quality, or you want to use advanced editing and recording functions, you may have to install a new sound card The sound card is an integrated on-board in laptop. If you want to improve the sound quality, or you want to use advanced editing and recording functions, you may have to install a new sound card.
There are two different kinds of sound cards available for laptops. Below are the instructions for installing each.

1. Locate the PCMCIA slot on your laptop. On most older laptops, the PCMCIA slot is located at the left side of the front of the computer.

2. A PCMCIA card is a thin, credit-card sized accessory generally used to add features to laptops. It’s also periodically used in smaller sized industrial and mobile computing applications.

3. You can install the PCMCIA card while the computer is running if your computer supports hot-swapping. The operating system will automatically recognize the new hardware and find the software for it.

4. Press the "PC Card Eject" button.

5. Remove the PC card cover. Retain it so that you’ll have it if you remove the new PC card later.

6. Insert the PC sound card with the upper label facing up. Push it gently into place. Your computer will make a sound to indicate that the card has been recognized.

7. Install the necessary drivers and software from the CD that came with your new sound card. And That's it. Try this on your laptop, now, before you have sound card problems.

Installing a USB Sound Card in Your Laptop

The newest laptops ship with no PCMCIA slot, only the ExpressCard slot. Normally, there are no sound cards that fit the ExpressCard slot so you’ll need to use a USB sound card or system.

Follow these steps to install a USB Sound Card

1. Plug the USB sound card into the appropriate USB plug on your laptop.
2. Wait for the computer to recognize the new USB device.
3. Insert the sound card manufacturer’s CD if prompted to do so.

And you're off and running. Use the USB Sound card without the worry of having to open any computer.

How to Remove Write Protection on USB Drive

Computers behave peculiar sometimes. The components that worked till then might show up error or doesn’t show up at all. I’m talking about the hardware components specifically this time. The reason might be anything, it could be malware or corrupted drivers or some other reason you can’t even expect. Whatever might be the reason, we need to get back our components working like before.

When you sometimes insert pen drive or memory sticks into your computer, you would see the drive showing up, but warns that it is write protected when tried to open it. It brings worry about our data in it and its future working condition as well.

There is a process to remove write-protection from your USB drive. We are going to use command prompt and a few disk commands in executing this process.

Step 1: Don’t worry about your USB drive, you are going to get it back in working condition.

Step 2: Open Command Prompt with administrator privileges and start typing the following commands.

To open command prompt with administrator privileges,

(In Windows 7)

How to Speed Up Your Computer with No Extra Cost

Computers run low in performance when used for long times. The reason behind the lag in the performance might be due to unmaintained hardware and software. Computers are after all machines that are made of earthly metals and material. They perish  too when they run out of time. The hardware need to be checked and undergone maintenance from time to time. The air borne dust that was caught by hardware also lowers the performance of computer.

Though the data is digital and the software is unworn, it need to be maintained from time to time. Prolonged usage of software may leave fragments and unnecessary files in the computer memory making it run slower than it can. Software slowdown may also be caused due to bad hardware. So there is a need to maintain both the hardware and software of a computer to make it run faster as it used be.
speedup-your-computer-with-noextra-cost
Let’s peek in to maintenance of hardware and software more precisely.

Maintaining Hardware

Maintaining hardware is maintaining the crucial parts of the computer. You don’t have to scratch out the designs on the mother board or design your own for maintenance. It just needs a simple care.

Clean Fans and Heat Sink

The reason for heating up and low performance is the reduced performance of the heat out fans. You may also find a fan on the graphics card along with the CPU and SMPS or any other part of the computer. All fans are equally important in maintaining good air flow in your computer there by decreasing the heat pressure on one component. After all overheated hardware lags performance or destroys it at all.

To prevent damage to the other integral parts of the computer, uninstall the fan out of the computer, clean it well, make sure it is rotating freely and install it back to its position. You may use vacuum cleaner to suck out dust from it or you may also use pressured air flow like canned air to clean it.

Clean Power Supply(SMPS)

The SMPS is responsible for maintaining power supply to your computer. You may find a fan inside it and also can found it difficult to take it out. I don’t recommend you to open up SMPS unless you are an expert. Try to brush out the air borne and other organic dust from the power supply through the vent holes. Using vacuum cleaner like thing is mostly recommended and can get your task done.

Use Thermal Paste

Installing one more fan or a new one might help you cool CPU for some extent. When you wanted it get cooled better and if wanted to get most of your processor, it is strongly recommended to use thermal paste on the CPU.

Thermal paste is a grease like thing that is applied to the interface between heat sink and CPU. The paste fills tiny gaps and pits and ensures closer contact between heat sink and CPU there by cooling it better than before. Try to re-apply thermal paste for every six months or a year.

Clean all Cables and Connection Slots

Overheating and dust may not be the only problem for slowing down of your computer every time. It might also because of loosened cable connections and bug dwelling slots and ports.

You know what, the word debugging came into practice when a computer scholar found dead bugs while dusting off his computer. This sounds funny but its true that bugs love to live inside your computer. They would make royal entrances through ports at the backside sometimes. Remove the cable connections and check if they are filled out with their properties. ‘Debug’ all the ports and slots and connect the cables tightly again.

Make sure you have fitted every screw tight and every cable firmly and correctly. Now turn on your computer and see if everything is working fine after the care.

If everything is good, its time to maintain software now!

Maintaining Software

After done with hardware maintenance successfully, we’ll skip into software section immediately. The reason why hardware is to be looked after prior to software is that software can only be maintained if the hardware is running at best. After all, software resides and directly depends on the performance of the hardware.

Clean Temporary Files

Temporary files are not bad. In fact, they help you open programs, access files quickly than possible. The temporary files might fill up memory of the computer and it show a adverse effect on the performance. As the saying ‘Too much of anything is not good” is already known to us.

Uninstall Unused Programs

You may want to have more number of programs on your computer but many of them remains unused. Install those programs that are needed and you frequently use. Uninstall the unused programs and free up space on your computer. The freed up space would be helpful in giving best of the programs you frequently use.

Defrag the Memory Dumps

When you are using a program, certain chunks of memory would be assigned to it. When it crashes or stops running suddenly, the chunks of memory would not be freed up and left as a crap in the backyard. You need to clean this crap from your HDD to make the disk perform reading and writing more faster.

Perform Antivirus Full Scan

Virus slows down the  computer. The unnecessary, uncontrollable programs eats up the processor and memory share of a computer. Update your antivirus definitions and set a full scan of your computer. Removing viruses from your computer would help it run faster than before. Let your antivirus software take control of the majority of the viruses and malware during the scan.

Remove Programs from Start up

One more thing that feels like the computer is slowing down is the boot time. Highly fragmented hard disk, heated up hardware, spoiled hard disk and more number of start up programs slowdown your computer. We’ve gone through all the optimizations of computer except the startup programs.
  1. Open Run > type msconfig.exe and hit Enter.
  2. Click on Startup tab and disable unnecessary programs on start up.
  3. Click Ok and restart the computer. You will find the computer booting up faster than earlier.

Update Drivers

No knife is useful unless you know how to use it to cut a fruit. In the same way, no better hardware configuration is useful if the drivers are outdated. You may have better hardware and software configuration but if had out dated drivers installed, they come to no use. Update your drivers by going to the Device Manager of your computer. If you got any problem opening device manager, try this tweak to access it.

Conclusion

There are many other reasons for a computer to get slow down. Dust, bugs, fragments, unused programs and temporary files may not be the only causes for slowing down a computer. The hardware and software configuration you use on your computer is also a specific reason. If you use Windows 7 or 8 on a older computer that is good for XP, you may not make best out of them.

As this article was focused on optimizing a computer for better performance with no extra cost indulging, I haven’t recommended you to upgrade your configuration. By the fact, it is better to upgrade you computer if you are using a 10 year old computer yet.

Hope this article shed some light on speeding up your computer. Feel free to comment your thoughts and opinions about speeding up a computer. You might have better ideas than discussed earlier.

How to Overcome HFS Partition Resize Failure in Mac?

Usually every laptop consists of a single hard drive. The hard drive has a contiguous amount of storage space. Once you start accessing the system you can see the size of the hard disk through the interface. In addition, it shows the space acquired by the system files as well as other application. It also tells you the amount of space that is empty. With the latest trend, you can easily manage your hard drive space. Today, if you purchase a Windows or Mac based systems, you can see a single hard drive volume. However, both Windows and Mac allow you to manage the hard drive space. You can easily partition the hard drive space into multiple volumes. This helps you to manage data more efficiently as you can keep separate categories of data in separate volumes. You can specify the amount of space you want to allocate to each volume. Creating partition on a Mac based system is an extremely easy task. However, you might face certain issues while creating the partition.

Consider a scenario where you are working on a Mac based system running Mountain Lion OS X. Mac OS X uses the Hierarchical File System (HFS) format to store data on the hard drive. Since, Mac comes with a single partition; you decide to make multiple partitions to arrange your data. Mac based systems comes with a Disk Utility, which can be used to create partitions in the system. However, you are not aware of how to work with it. While messing around with the tool to create partitions, you got the following error.

‘Partition Failed’

You might also get the following error message

‘Couldn’t modify partition map because file system verification failed’

Such kind of error messages is very common in the case of manual partition of the hard drive which might have Bootcamp files earlier. Such a situation denies you to create any partition of the hard drive. Some of the common situations where you could get the ‘partition failed’ error message include the following.

  1. If you are running two OS X and trying to delete a bootcamp partition.
  2. The number of drags and click sequence also accounts for the error.
  3. Some kind of calculation errors could also give you the partition failed error.

However, you can try fixing these partitions related errors by using the file system check command line utility. When you are unable to resize Mac HFS partition, you need to follow the below steps to fix the issues.

Step 1: Reboot the Mac system.

Note: You need to start the Mac in a Single User Mode. This can be done by using the Command + S key while booting.

Step 2: Open the command prompt.

Step 3: Type /sbin/fsck –fy

Step 4: Once the file check is over, type ‘exit’ to complete the process.

Note: You can also type ‘reboot’, if you wish to reboot the system.

This process allows you to fix any kind of errors present in the hard drive, which is not allowing you to create the partition. Once fixed, you can boot the Mac as usual. You can make use of the Disk Utility option to create a partition. You need to follow the below mentioned steps to do that.

  1. Open the Disk Utility.
  2. You can try creating partition by making use of the sliding feature. You can slide the box downwards as required to use the free space.
  3. Click Apply to create a partition of the mentioned size.
  4. This would create a partition, without giving any error message.

How to Install Windows 7 or 8 in Linpus Linux machine?

Some new laptops comes along with Linpus Linux operating system. Though this Linux version of the operating system will not have features like Windows, people still choose to buy laptops with Linpus versions. The reason why, is the bottom line of the story, ‘to reduce price'. Laptops with Windows versions literally costs 4-5k extra bucks over the Linpus version of Linux.

Buying a product with desired configuration and for lesser price than the actual is a smart move. But remember, the smartness lasts till you don’t spend an extra rupee/dollar after that. If you are not familiar with Linux, you would find it difficult installing Windows operating system in Linpus environment and would regret buying the machine for a second.

I’ve faced such problem once and found a simple solution after a lot googling. The Linpus machine would take you to some where after the boot that makes you feel casted away. Don’t worry, the process will go smooth and will pick you up from the casted away island.

Booting in Windows environment

Before you boot your computer in Windows environment, make sure you had the bootable Windows 7 or 8 DVD or any other similar source for booting Windows.

  1. Restart your computer by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del in Linpus environment.
  2. Keep pressing F2 or any other similar button that brings up BIOS options. Look for boot priority settings and change the first boot priority to ‘DVDRAM’ if you are using OS DVD or ‘Removable Media’ if you are using Bootable USB.
  3. Insert DVD into DVDRAM or plugin Bootable USB to the computer.
  4. Save settings and exit. The computer will restart and while booting it will ask you to hit any button to boot computer with DVD you have inserted(In some laptops, the ‘press any key to boot into DVD’ text may not be shown. Instead, a blank underscore(_) will be shown blinking for a couple of seconds. In that case also, press a key within 2 or 3 seconds).
  5. Then your computer will be booted into Windows environment. Don’t rush to the drive options and format the drive or delete the partition.
Note: Remember that you can boot into Windows environment but the actions on drive or drive partitions will not be considered.

Formatting Linux Partitions with Windows

Booting into Windows environment alone won’t bring you full control over your computer. Remember that the hard disk would be formatted with Linux before Linpus installed in it. So to install Windows, we must re-format it in Windows environment.

Formatting options that are available while installing Windows 7 or 8 aren’t helpful at all.  You must format the Linux partitioned HDD with Windows command prompt. To do so,
  1. Restart the computer into Windows environment again.
  2. Wait until the ‘Install Windows’ screen is shown.
  3. Press Shift+F10 to bring up the command prompt.
  4. Now type the following commands one after another,Type ‘diskpart’ and hit enter. A new DISKPART prompt will be opened.
    Type ‘help’ and hit enter.
diskpart command help

All the commands for DISKPART will be shown. Of them, we’ll be using SELECT command only. Using of other command options are up to you.

Type ‘select disk 0’ and hit enter. (disk 0 means disk zero).
Now type ‘clean’ and hit enter. This command will clean all the previous formats that are made using different other operating systems.

Close the command prompt window and proceed to the windows installation. Now format, delete or create partitions as per your requirement.
