How to Remove Write Protection on USB Drive

Computers behave peculiar sometimes. The components that worked till then might show up error or doesn’t show up at all. I’m talking about the hardware components specifically this time. The reason might be anything, it could be malware or corrupted drivers or some other reason you can’t even expect. Whatever might be the reason, we need to get back our components working like before.

When you sometimes insert pen drive or memory sticks into your computer, you would see the drive showing up, but warns that it is write protected when tried to open it. It brings worry about our data in it and its future working condition as well.

There is a process to remove write-protection from your USB drive. We are going to use command prompt and a few disk commands in executing this process.

Step 1: Don’t worry about your USB drive, you are going to get it back in working condition.

Step 2: Open Command Prompt with administrator privileges and start typing the following commands.

To open command prompt with administrator privileges,

(In Windows 7)
  1. Click on Start button and type CMD in the search bar.
  2. Right click on cmd.exe and select ‘Run as Administrator’.
(In Windows 8)
  1. Click Win+C or slide over to Charms bar.
  2. Click on Search and type CMD. You would see Command Prompt under Apps category.
  3. Right click on it and select ‘Run as Administrator’ from the slide up options at bottom.
Now type the following commands in the same order as shown below:

Step 1: Type diskpart and hit Enter. You will be taken to the diskpart directory as shown in the screenshot.

Removing Write Protection on USB Drive

Step 2: Now type list disk and hit Enter. You will be shown the list of disks on the computer.

‘Disk 0’ would be actually your hard disk and ‘Disk 1’ would be your USB drive. If you have more than one hard disk or USB stick connected to your computer, they would also be shown up. Check the memory sizes of disks once before you proceed after this step. We’ve to tweak the USB drive that is showing ‘write protect message’ when tried to open.

For no confusion, remove the extra USB sticks inserted into your computer.

How to Speed Up Your Computer with No Extra Cost

Computers run low in performance when used for long times. The reason behind the lag in the performance might be due to unmaintained hardware and software. Computers are after all machines that are made of earthly metals and material. They perish  too when they run out of time. The hardware need to be checked and undergone maintenance from time to time. The air borne dust that was caught by hardware also lowers the performance of computer.

Though the data is digital and the software is unworn, it need to be maintained from time to time. Prolonged usage of software may leave fragments and unnecessary files in the computer memory making it run slower than it can. Software slowdown may also be caused due to bad hardware. So there is a need to maintain both the hardware and software of a computer to make it run faster as it used be.
Let’s peek in to maintenance of hardware and software more precisely.

Maintaining Hardware

Maintaining hardware is maintaining the crucial parts of the computer. You don’t have to scratch out the designs on the mother board or design your own for maintenance. It just needs a simple care.

Clean Fans and Heat Sink

The reason for heating up and low performance is the reduced performance of the heat out fans. You may also find a fan on the graphics card along with the CPU and SMPS or any other part of the computer. All fans are equally important in maintaining good air flow in your computer there by decreasing the heat pressure on one component. After all overheated hardware lags performance or destroys it at all.

To prevent damage to the other integral parts of the computer, uninstall the fan out of the computer, clean it well, make sure it is rotating freely and install it back to its position. You may use vacuum cleaner to suck out dust from it or you may also use pressured air flow like canned air to clean it.

Clean Power Supply(SMPS)

The SMPS is responsible for maintaining power supply to your computer. You may find a fan inside it and also can found it difficult to take it out. I don’t recommend you to open up SMPS unless you are an expert. Try to brush out the air borne and other organic dust from the power supply through the vent holes. Using vacuum cleaner like thing is mostly recommended and can get your task done.

Use Thermal Paste

Installing one more fan or a new one might help you cool CPU for some extent. When you wanted it get cooled better and if wanted to get most of your processor, it is strongly recommended to use thermal paste on the CPU.

Thermal paste is a grease like thing that is applied to the interface between heat sink and CPU. The paste fills tiny gaps and pits and ensures closer contact between heat sink and CPU there by cooling it better than before. Try to re-apply thermal paste for every six months or a year.

Clean all Cables and Connection Slots

Overheating and dust may not be the only problem for slowing down of your computer every time. It might also because of loosened cable connections and bug dwelling slots and ports.

You know what, the word debugging came into practice when a computer scholar found dead bugs while dusting off his computer. This sounds funny but its true that bugs love to live inside your computer. They would make royal entrances through ports at the backside sometimes. Remove the cable connections and check if they are filled out with their properties. ‘Debug’ all the ports and slots and connect the cables tightly again.

Make sure you have fitted every screw tight and every cable firmly and correctly. Now turn on your computer and see if everything is working fine after the care.

If everything is good, its time to maintain software now!

Maintaining Software

After done with hardware maintenance successfully, we’ll skip into software section immediately. The reason why hardware is to be looked after prior to software is that software can only be maintained if the hardware is running at best. After all, software resides and directly depends on the performance of the hardware.

Clean Temporary Files

Temporary files are not bad. In fact, they help you open programs, access files quickly than possible. The temporary files might fill up memory of the computer and it show a adverse effect on the performance. As the saying ‘Too much of anything is not good” is already known to us.

Uninstall Unused Programs

You may want to have more number of programs on your computer but many of them remains unused. Install those programs that are needed and you frequently use. Uninstall the unused programs and free up space on your computer. The freed up space would be helpful in giving best of the programs you frequently use.

Defrag the Memory Dumps

When you are using a program, certain chunks of memory would be assigned to it. When it crashes or stops running suddenly, the chunks of memory would not be freed up and left as a crap in the backyard. You need to clean this crap from your HDD to make the disk perform reading and writing more faster.

Perform Antivirus Full Scan

Virus slows down the  computer. The unnecessary, uncontrollable programs eats up the processor and memory share of a computer. Update your antivirus definitions and set a full scan of your computer. Removing viruses from your computer would help it run faster than before. Let your antivirus software take control of the majority of the viruses and malware during the scan.

Remove Programs from Start up

One more thing that feels like the computer is slowing down is the boot time. Highly fragmented hard disk, heated up hardware, spoiled hard disk and more number of start up programs slowdown your computer. We’ve gone through all the optimizations of computer except the startup programs.
  1. Open Run > type msconfig.exe and hit Enter.
  2. Click on Startup tab and disable unnecessary programs on start up.
  3. Click Ok and restart the computer. You will find the computer booting up faster than earlier.

Update Drivers

No knife is useful unless you know how to use it to cut a fruit. In the same way, no better hardware configuration is useful if the drivers are outdated. You may have better hardware and software configuration but if had out dated drivers installed, they come to no use. Update your drivers by going to the Device Manager of your computer. If you got any problem opening device manager, try this tweak to access it.

There are many other reasons for a computer to get slow down. Dust, bugs, fragments, unused programs and temporary files may not be the only causes for slowing down a computer. The hardware and software configuration you use on your computer is also a specific reason. If you use Windows 7 or 8 on a older computer that is good for XP, you may not make best out of them.

As this article was focused on optimizing a computer for better performance with no extra cost indulging, I haven’t recommended you to upgrade your configuration. By the fact, it is better to upgrade you computer if you are using a 10 year old computer yet.

Hope this article shed some light on speeding up your computer. Feel free to comment your thoughts and opinions about speeding up a computer. You might have better ideas than discussed earlier.

Recover Files with Easy using Hetman Partition Recovery 2.1

We live in the world where everything is destined to live only for specific time duration. The same theorem applies to even electronic devices and more importantly, your valuable data stored on any of such electronic devices i.e. Hard drive, USB, flash drive etc. Even with the advanced technologies and data protection methods, data loss does happen and one can’t simply bypass it. Electronic devices such as your conventional hard drive which carries multiple equipment's like platters, read/write head, spindle motor etc. and any wrong actions might cause them to fail unexpectedly. Once such situation arises, you can’t even access the computer system and neither stored content.

Hetman Partition Recovery and similar recovery tools is available not to control any particular data loss situations, but to address them efficiently so can you restore your data back. Generally, these programs are created using powerful mechanism and incorporates indigenous scanning engine to hunt for any lost or deleted files from hard drive or any other type of storage media devices. Using this tool, you can perform flawless recovery operation to undelete files and folders, lost or deleted hard drive partitions, photos, audios, videos etc. Through wizard based interface, you can freely repair damaged or corrupted file systems and make it ready to perform recovery.

How to use this tool?

Grab this tool from the manufacturer website ( and install it on your computer running any latest copy of Windows such as Windows 8/ Windows 7/ Vista/ XP. How to Overcome HFS Partition Resize Failure in Mac?

Usually every laptop consists of a single hard drive. The hard drive has a contiguous amount of storage space. Once you start accessing the system you can see the size of the hard disk through the interface. In addition, it shows the space acquired by the system files as well as other application. It also tells you the amount of space that is empty. With the latest trend, you can easily manage your hard drive space. Today, if you purchase a Windows or Mac based systems, you can see a single hard drive volume. However, both Windows and Mac allow you to manage the hard drive space. You can easily partition the hard drive space into multiple volumes. This helps you to manage data more efficiently as you can keep separate categories of data in separate volumes. You can specify the amount of space you want to allocate to each volume. Creating partition on a Mac based system is an extremely easy task. However, you might face certain issues while creating the partition.

Consider a scenario where you are working on a Mac based system running Mountain Lion OS X. Mac OS X uses the Hierarchical File System (HFS) format to store data on the hard drive. Since, Mac comes with a single partition; you decide to make multiple partitions to arrange your data. Mac based systems comes with a Disk Utility, which can be used to create partitions in the system. However, you are not aware of how to work with it. While messing around with the tool to create partitions, you got the following error.

‘Partition Failed’

You might also get the following error message

‘Couldn’t modify partition map because file system verification failed’

Such kind of error messages is very common in the case of manual partition of the hard drive which might have Bootcamp files earlier. Such a situation denies you to create any partition of the hard drive. Some of the common situations where you could get the ‘partition failed’ error message include the following.

  1. If you are running two OS X and trying to delete a bootcamp partition.
  2. The number of drags and click sequence also accounts for the error.
  3. Some kind of calculation errors could also give you the partition failed error.

However, you can try fixing these partitions related errors by using the file system check command line utility. When you are unable to resize Mac HFS partition, you need to follow the below steps to fix the issues.

Step 1: Reboot the Mac system.

Note: You need to start the Mac in a Single User Mode. This can be done by using the Command + S key while booting.

Step 2: Open the command prompt.

Step 3: Type /sbin/fsck –fy

Step 4: Once the file check is over, type ‘exit’ to complete the process.

Note: You can also type ‘reboot’, if you wish to reboot the system.

This process allows you to fix any kind of errors present in the hard drive, which is not allowing you to create the partition. Once fixed, you can boot the Mac as usual. You can make use of the Disk Utility option to create a partition. You need to follow the below mentioned steps to do that.

  1. Open the Disk Utility.
  2. You can try creating partition by making use of the sliding feature. You can slide the box downwards as required to use the free space.
  3. Click Apply to create a partition of the mentioned size.
  4. This would create a partition, without giving any error message.

Resolving ‘Windows Not Genuine’ Problem

So many of us have been customized to use pirated software. There are two problems of using a pirated software. You might have easily got an ISO file of it in a torrent site but it is as harmful as easily available. A pirated software will be hacked to use limitlessly and it cannot be trusted on our computers. The hacker might have injected harmful code and have modified major security areas of the operating system in favor to him.
While buying computers, we care only about hardware more than software. We are pretty much aware of the fact that software costs a bit high and the computer price might go tall when genuine software is preferred. You may not want to care about genuinity of the rest of the software but you should be careful about operating system at least. Most of the operating systems people use today in the world are not genuine and so exposing themselves to brutal hacks. Yes I mean it!
Windows XP is the most hacked operating system in the world and so Microsoft took over XP for its incurable vulnerabilities. Hacked versions are distributed in the name of genuine versions over the globe. These operating systems work fine until windows try to download updates and security patches from Microsoft (Stopping downloading updates to your operating system except in limited internet accessibility is not recommended at all). Before downloading updates to a operating system, Microsoft updates manager check for the genuinity of the OS and if it is found to be a pirated one shows up a message on the right bottom of the screen saying “You might be the victim of software counterfeiting. Ask for genuine Microsoft windows.”
If you see this message on your computer screen, that means its time to buy a genuine operating system. You may contact your retailer from whom you bought computer if wanted. Besides buying a new operating system, you may want to use your computer without ‘windows not genuine’ message popping up every time you boot it. At those critical emergency times, use the following technique to resolve the issue.

Resolving Windows Not Genuine Message

Windows Genuine Advantage tool is responsible for handling windows genuinity issues. It is responsible for displaying the messages while booting and when on desktop. If we could perform a little hack on this, we could overcome the problem of genuinely messages.
Note: Remember we don’t support any illegal or pirated versions of software download and installations. We are not making Windows genuine in this article but just trying to overcome the difficulty with popped messages in urgent times.
Step 1: Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open task manager. Find WgaTray.exe in the running processes and end it.
Step 2: Go to Windows installed drive and navigate to this path: C:\Windows\system32
Step 3: Find WgaLogOn.dll and WgaTray.exe files from System32 folder and rename them.
If you can’t find the extension for the WgaTray file, got to tools > folder options > view > untick ‘hide extensions from file types’.
That’s it go back to your desktop and continue with your work. But don’t forget to get a genuine operating system.
Note: As said earlier, this is not the process of activating or making windows genuine. Renaming Windows Genuine Advantage tool is a threat to security of windows operating system. Working on WGA tool disabled operating system is not recommended.
The following are the list of operating systems and their respective prices:

Most Common Cases for your Computer’s Damage that you can’t expect

Computers give surprises in hard times!

When is the last time you saw your computer working in good condition? I hear some of my friends saying that the computer was working good till last night and all of a sudden it isn’t starting up this morning. This is what I call a surprise.

There are number of reasons for a computer’s failure. It is hard to list all of them out. Though, I’ll try to take you through some most common factors that lead a computer to fail to work the next time and come up with proper solutions.

It is recommended to back up the data from the hard drives into cloud or other external disks.

Case 1: Working fine till last time, but failed to start up now

This situation creates panic for the computer owners. They fear that the whole work they were working on last night would be lost or have to do again.

Stop worrying first! This can’t solve your problem. Answer my following questions to diagnose the problem.

#1 Have your computer warned you about the havoc ever in the past?

If your answer is YES:
What the error is about? Is it about software failure of hardware failure?

Most of the computer users won’t care about errors and warnings expect if they are programmers or computer geeks. Common computer users neglect the notifications, warning & error messages generally. If you are one of the normal users, you should concentrate on what I’m going to suggest.

Never ever neglect a notification or error or warning message that is shown on the screen. This would help you get back your computer to life again when undergone repair.
Solution: If you are pretty sure about the warnings you have noticed in the past, that means the way to find a solution is made easy.

There might something wrong with your operating system or the software you have installed on your computer. ‘System Restore’ would work for most of the software failure cases.

Don’t forget to scan your computer with the latest updated anti-virus after the restore. Software might be a cause or data lose.
It sometimes can be the hardware problem also. The drivers or the incompatible software installed may cause the problem.

Usually we don’t care about the warnings but only see if the software/game is running or not!

Some heavy software tools and high graphical games might need better hardware configuration than you computer had. When you try to install them on your computer with lower than recommended configuration, hardware conflicts arises. Some software may insist installing on the downgraded configuration, but some finds room to adjust with inadequate hardware. At those times, hardware perishes on the repeated usage of that game or software. This might be a cause for your computer failure.

In that case you may have to find the damaged hardware and replace it with new. Make sure to install the upgraded configuration this time.

#2 Is the power supply good?

Have you checked out the power supply to your computer? Is it good?

If YES: If the power supply is found good then answer my next question, how old is your computer?

Old computer hardware may get damaged due to over-heating caused due to excessive usage. Believe me you are going to laugh at me if I say that the now-a-day application software have improved a lot and they definitely need better configuration to run smoothly.

Only software upgrade cannot make your tasks go smooth. Upgradation is needed on both sides.

If you are thinking about upgrading your hardware, I recommend you to buy a new computer instead.

If NO: Set your power supply right. If you don’t have an idea of how to give connections to a computer, call support home.

#3 Any thunderstorm last night?

Yes! thunderstorms can damage computers. After all, computers are also electronic devices!

If YES: Thunderstorms cannot damage software. If the computer is not starting up means a hardware failure in this case.
  • If you are getting power supply to your PC, your SMPS is good.
  • If the processor fan is running, you motherboard is safe.
  • If the computer is showing up error messages regarding operating system and showing disk failure messages, your HDD might be at risk.
  • If you can see the error messages or something else on the monitor, your monitor is good.
* Check the spike and power plugs before you come to diagnose the computer.

Case 2: It been a long time since I used my computer

If this is case you are referring this article, you might not be in a such a panic the people at case 1 do.

It’s Ok! I understand! you need your computer back to work. Let’s check the following scenarios which might be the causes for the computer failure.

#1 Do you remember it working in good condition when you used it last time?

We have to make sure that your computer was in good condition when used at last time. If there was a failure at last usage, you forgot it by chance and then troubleshooting now would be a loss of time. So go deep in to your digital memories once be fore we begin.

If YES: There might be a reason with your last standing wires and cables. Check them once I any damages can be found. Wires and cables are rat’s favorite dish. They love chewing them and we hate it.

If NO: Open and clean your computer hardware. Long lasting cast away of computer might get dust in critical parts and interrupt them from working.

#2 Do you have children at home or they visit your home often?

Is your computer child prone? Is it safe from children hands?

Stop giving me that look! Children can spoil computers even when they are not turned on.

If YES: Good to see a children victim like me. My home always will have as many children as mosquitos. They are naughty, always playing around me asking for computer games. Yes! you’re right that is the biggest mistake I’ve done, playing computer games with children for just one heck of time.

Children can wreck you PC mocking you in front of them. Check your wires at first and try tapping on the CPU to know if it was damaged due to death fall from a height. All the best for you in this case.

If NO: You are the luckiest guy! You computer might have been damaged due to the reasons shared above.

That’s all I could remember about computer havocs I have experienced in my life till now. Hope the above cases would help you troubleshoot the problem and at least gave you an idea how to talk to a technician when taken to.

Turning On/Off Automatic Brightness Adjustment in Windows 7 or Windows 8

The brightness of monitors or laptop screens can be set to adjust automatically according to the ambiance light of the place you are sitting in, with your computer. This feature can be either automated or manulalized according to your needs. This feature is actively known with the name ‘adaptive brightness’.

Adaptive brightness is a kind of technology that adjusts brightness for different kind of content that is shown on the display screen. It adapts to the environment and thus making displays dim or brighter. If you are viewing the darker content on the screen, the technology would dim the display and when doing typing work or viewing brighter content with white backgrounds, the display would increase the brightness automatically.

Adaptive brightness technology is very helpful for those who use computers or laptops for regular use. Using this option would increase the battery life after all. But for those who does multimedia work, adaptive brightness is a pain. Just think how distracting it would be when trying to brighten an image in Photoshop with dim setting! Not only the multimedia users, the normal users might want this setting turned off when working with Photoshop or similar tool. So now, I’m going to show you how to turn this setting On/Off according to the necessity.

How to Install Windows 7 or 8 in Linpus Linux machine?

Some new laptops comes along with Linpus Linux operating system. Though this Linux version of the operating system will not have features like Windows, people still choose to buy laptops with Linpus versions. The reason why, is the bottom line of the story, ‘to reduce price'. Laptops with Windows versions literally costs 4-5k extra bucks over the Linpus version of Linux.

Buying a product with desired configuration and for lesser price than the actual is a smart move. But remember, the smartness lasts till you don’t spend an extra rupee/dollar after that. If you are not familiar with Linux, you would find it difficult installing Windows operating system in Linpus environment and would regret buying the machine for a second.

I’ve faced such problem once and found a simple solution after a lot googling. The Linpus machine would take you to some where after the boot that makes you feel casted away. Don’t worry, the process will go smooth and will pick you up from the casted away island.

Booting in Windows environment

Before you boot your computer in Windows environment, make sure you had the bootable Windows 7 or 8 DVD or any other similar source for booting Windows.

  1. Restart your computer by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del in Linpus environment.
  2. Keep pressing F2 or any other similar button that brings up BIOS options. Look for boot priority settings and change the first boot priority to ‘DVDRAM’ if you are using OS DVD or ‘Removable Media’ if you are using Bootable USB.
  3. Insert DVD into DVDRAM or plugin Bootable USB to the computer.
  4. Save settings and exit. The computer will restart and while booting it will ask you to hit any button to boot computer with DVD you have inserted(In some laptops, the ‘press any key to boot into DVD’ text may not be shown. Instead, a blank underscore(_) will be shown blinking for a couple of seconds. In that case also, press a key within 2 or 3 seconds).
  5. Then your computer will be booted into Windows environment. Don’t rush to the drive options and format the drive or delete the partition.
Note: Remember that you can boot into Windows environment but the actions on drive or drive partitions will not be considered.

Formatting Linux Partitions with Windows

Booting into Windows environment alone won’t bring you full control over your computer. Remember that the hard disk would be formatted with Linux before Linpus installed in it. So to install Windows, we must re-format it in Windows environment.

Formatting options that are available while installing Windows 7 or 8 aren’t helpful at all.  You must format the Linux partitioned HDD with Windows command prompt. To do so,
  1. Restart the computer into Windows environment again.
  2. Wait until the ‘Install Windows’ screen is shown.
  3. Press Shift+F10 to bring up the command prompt.
  4. Now type the following commands one after another,Type ‘diskpart’ and hit enter. A new DISKPART prompt will be opened.
    Type ‘help’ and hit enter.
diskpart command help

If you don’t know much about your software program, make your heart hard and restart the system. [If this solved your problem, skip to the ‘common thing to do’ at the end of the article]

Common thing to do

You problem may have been solved by any of the above cases or another case, the common thing your have to do is restart your system once after the hang is relieved. It makes your computer re-run the hanging tasks and keep it fresh while using again.

How To Run Trial Software Forever Without Activation

So many software programs are available for trial. Generally these trial programs expire when the trial period is over. We might want to use them even after the trial is over with our activating. Most of us would start searching for activation patches or cracks to activate that software.

Activating by patching or cracking is not safe everytime to your computer. Uncatchable malware would spread into your computer slowing down the computer than it can handle. So better to use the software in trial.

What to do to extend trial period?

Literally nothing! because you are not extending the trial period here but just stopping the trial time run down. The CMOS battery in your computer is responsible for the run down of trial time because it is responsible for the running of the date and time in your computer.

You cannot remove or change your computer time as you like as this would trigger the remaining applications run error. Why to risk many for just one?

Here is the solution

There is a solution to stop the trial time run down. Download RunAsDate and install it on your computer.

RunAsDate is a small utility that allows you to run a program in the date and time that you specify. This utility doesn't change the current system date and time of your computer, but it only injects the date/time that you specify into the desired application.

You can run multiple applications simultaneously, each application works with different date and time, while the real date/time of your system continues to run normally.

How to use this tool?

The simple user interface of this tool allows users to use it without any hard effort.

Run As Date Demo

Browse the trial software you are running on your computer, set the date and time and click on ‘Run’.

Note:  Make sure you run the software in its trial time and date.i.e., If a software called ‘xyz.exe’ is going to expire on 17 Jan 2014, the injected time & date should be before 17th Jan 2014.

How it works?

RunAsDate intercepts the kernel API calls that returns the current date and time (GetSystemTime, GetLocalTime, GetSystemTimeAsFileTime), and replaces the current date/time with the date/time that you specify.

Is this tool cool? or not? Voice your opinions in comment section below over this tool!

What to do when Device Manager is not working

Device manager is what that shows you the list of hardware devices running on your computer. These settings sometimes give us trouble by not opening and there by not allowing us to access the hardware device configurations on the computer.

Try the following Scenarios to open the device manager if it is not allowing you to open it through control panel or from the my computer properties.

Scenario 1:

If you are using Windows 7 or 8, type devmgmt.msc in the search box and the open the program.

Find the devmgmt.msc program in C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc location and run the program.

Click Win+R to open the run command window and enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc into it and hit Enter.

If scenario 1 solves your problem, skip to the ‘must do’ section of this article!

Scenario 2:

If the above scenario can’t solve your problem that means you have corrupted files on your computer that is resisting the devmgmt.msc program to open.

System File Checker(SFC.exe) would solve your problem with corrupted files and programs. To run this, type cmd in the start menu search, Right-click on it and run as administrator.

After the command prompt opens in administrator mode, Enter sfc /scannow command.

Enter sfc /scannow command

The sfc /scannow command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy that is located in a compressed folder at %WinDir%\System32\dllcache.

The %WinDir% placeholder represents the Windows operating system folder. For example, C:\Windows.

Must do

Try opening the device manager now. If this still doesn’t work, scan your computer with your updated antivirus software and repair your operating system if you think it is needed.

Note Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.

Remove Virus from your Computer without using Antivirus

The typical part of computer security involves the removal of the brutal viruses from it. Computer viruses cannot be stopped as long as the technology advances. There is no such antivirus software that removes the 100% computer viruses. No such patches, versions or updates of the antivirus software are existed yet and not expected too. So how to remove virus from the computer if antivirus can’t help you at most? The answer for this question exists since command prompt born. You can easily remove virus from the hard drive or your removable drive by using simple CMD commands.

Remove Virus from your Computer without using Antivirus
Step 1: Open Command Prompt in your computer (Press ‘Win+r’ and type ‘cmd’).

Step 2: Select the virus effected drive. For eg., say D: drive is effected with virus, to enter into it simply type d: , then you will be entered into d: drive.

Step 3: View all files in it by typing dir command. Then type attrib –s –h *.* /s /d command  and press enter to view all the system and hidden files which may not show up with dir command.

Step 4: Identify the odd .exe file(s) which is suspectable and an autorun.inf file(s) that runs the virus executable file.

Step 5: Rename the autorun.inf file to a random name by using rename command. The rename command would look like this,
rename autotun.inf sdfasdf
The new renamed file name can be anything of your choice.

Step 6: Now navigate to d: drive and check extra renamed unknown file format and a .exe file with some weird name(You may find more renamed unknown format files as well as .exe files if you found more than one type of virus in Step 3). Shift+ Delete those files from the memory.

If you can’t find odd executable files in your computer and wanted to format it to clean the drive, at least rescue your infected data from viruses before you format it.

Congratulations! You’re done! Your drive is free from viruses now. Though antiviruses can’t remove 100% virus fro your computer, it would be better to have one as to protect your computer precautionary.

Windows 7 Sleep Mode Not Active [Solved]

Sleep mode is a great feature of Windows 7 PCs and laptops to pause the work for sometime and resume it again without wasting much power. Some computers running on Windows 7 would not show up or just fade out the sleep option. This would be a serious issue when talking about the laptops. One cannot afford to loose the battery power of laptop in continual work timings. Sometimes computers will automatically and immediately awakes from sleep mode without our intervention. To avoid these sleep problems with your windows 7 computer, check if any of the following methods would help you get back the control over it.

Method 1: Update Drivers

Drivers issue would be the most silly cause in fading out the sleep option. Most of us don’t care updating drivers of the motherboard for Windows 7. I recommend you to update or reinstall the drivers after immediate installation of the operating system. Most particularly, don’t forget to update or re-install video card drivers on your system.

In the most cases, this method would solve your problem.

Method 2: Configuring Power Options

If the method 1 is not helpful for you then immediately you must check your power options.

Click on start and type sleep in the search box. Then click on Change when the computer sleeps option.

Windows 7 Sleep Mode

Now set put computer to sleep to some time, say 15 minutes just as in my case. Never set it to Never option.

Windows 7 Sleep Mode settings

Your power settings might show different other options like brightness and display dim. These options are totally left to your choice.

Now go to advanced power settings. Expand Sleep  make sure allow awake timers is set to disable.
Windows 7 Sleep Mode Not Active

Scroll down to the multimedia settings, expand when sharing media and set the option to allow computer to sleep.

Method 3: Disable Wake Up Computer Devices

Click on start, type cmd. Right click on the cmd and choose run as administrator.

Now type the following command which lists out all devices and wakes up our computer.

powercfg –devicequery wake_armed
Now you can disable a device by typing in the following command and replacing devicename with the name of the device listed previously

Powercfg -devicedisablewake “devicename
windows 7 sleep problem

You can also prevent devices from waking from the device manager. To do this, go to control panel > hardware and sound > and click on device manager (under the device and printers).

Expand the device you want to disable >  right click on it > Properties.

Under the power management tab, uncheck the allow this device to wake the computer.

Disabling devices to sleep

These above methods should solve your problem hopefully. If these didn’t help you, post me a comment and I will try to assist you for further help.

Troubleshooting Graphical Login Screen in Linux

Every time I installed Linux on an older PC, the GUI installation worked fine during installation, but then the graphical login screen didn’t appear when I rebooted the PC for the first time after installation. Instead, I ended up with a text login screen or a black screen with a small ‘X’ in the middle, or the boot process seemed to hang with a gray screen. If this problem happens to you, here’s how you can troubleshoot it.

Example of graphical login screens in linux

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot the PC.
The PC starts to boot. You get to a screen where GRUB (GRand Unified Bootloader) prompts you for the operating system to boot. (If the distribution uses LILO as the boot loader, you get a text prompt.)

2. For GRUB, press the A key to add an option that tells the Linux kernel to boot to a prompt. For LILO, skip this step.
The GRUB boot loader then displays a command line for the Linux kernel and prompts you to add what you want.

3. For GRUB, type a space followed by the word single and press Enter. For LILO, type linux single and press Enter.
The Linux kernel boots in a single-user mode and displays a prompt that looks like the following:

Now you’re ready to configure X.

X uses a configuration file (XF86Config-4 or xorg.conf, depending on the distribution) to figure out your display card, your monitor, and the kind of screen resolution you want. The Linux installer prepares the configuration file, but sometimes the configuration isn’t correct.

To quickly create a working configuration file, follow these steps:

1. Type the following command:

X -configure

The X server runs and creates a configuration file. The screen goes blank and then the X server exits after displaying some messages. In Fedora, the last line of the message says the following:

To test the server, run ‘X -config ///etc/’

2. Use a text editor, such as vi, to edit the ///etc/ file and insert the following line after the line Section “Files”:

FontPath “unix/:7100”

In Fedora, you must also change /dev/mouse to /dev/input/mice.
3. Type xfs & to start the X font server.

4. Try the new configuration file by typing X -config ///etc/ If you see a blank screen with an X-shaped cursor, the configuration file is working fine.

5. Press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to kill the X server.

6. Copy the new configuration file to the /etc/X11 directory with the following command:

cp ///etc/ /etc/X11/xorg.conf

7. Reboot the PC by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete or typing reboot.

If all goes well, you should get the graphical login screen.

The X configuration file created by using the -configure option of the X server does not display at the best resolution. To fine-tune the configuration file, you have to run a utility to adjust the display settings after you reboot the system. Which utility you use depends on the Linux distribution, but most distributions include a utility that enables you to configure the video card, monitor, and display settings through a graphical user interface.
