Ringing Bells Freedom 251 Full Review: The World’s Cheapest Android Smartphone

Inspired by the Digital India campaign, an Indian private company, Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd has released the world’s cheapest smartphone Freedom 251 at the market price of ₹251 i.e., at $4 USD to promote the digitization of the country as dreamt by the honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.

Note: This handset is not officially promoted by the government of India but a domestic manufacturer.

The phone comes with outstanding features at the availability price. We’ll see what this Freedom 251 has got and if can fulfil the need failed by Aakash tablet initiative in the past.

The phone looks more of iPhone 4S slightly in design. I cannot comment on the build quality with the price in mind. It has a proximity sensor (probably the only sensor it has), 0.3MP front camera and a physical home button on the front panel of the phone. Coming to the back, it comes with 3.2MP AF rear camera with LED flash.

Having the 4-inch qHD IPS display, Freedom 251 looks handy and fits correctly in hand. The design of the phone is worth more than it is available for.

Amazingly, the phone comes with 1.3GHz Quad Core processor supported by 1GB RAM and have 8GB internal memory on board. You can even expand the memory up to 32GB through external microSD card. The phone runs on Android Lollipop v5.1 which is lacked in so many other phones in the market.

Freedom 251 comes with 1450 mAh battery which might not stand so long yet more than what it is worth.

The phone coms with some applications pre-installed. They include,
  • Women Safety
  • Swachh Bharat
  • Fisherman
  • Farmer
  • Medical
  • Google Play
  • WhatsApp,
  • Facebook
  • YouTube and some other regular apps.
The company has 650+ service centers setup all over India which is a lot better than many other new mobile manufacturers in the country and from abroad. Upon that the company gives 1 year warranty on the device.

Note: I think I should not go with the pros and cons section of this phone as this is available for the price less than that of a Starbucks coffee. Don’t you think so?

Should you buy it?

The specifications are nice, what else do you expect for just ₹251? You won’t even get a 3G pack for this price point if noticed. The quad core processor and 1 GB RAM device might at least cost you ₹2,800 i.e., $45 USD. If the price is a market trick, and you wanted to have a temporary phone for your rough needs, Freedom 251 is what you should go for.

If Freedom 251 comes for the price it is announced for, exactly, without any tricks hidden during the booking process, it can sweep the entire production in seconds.

What do you say? Aren't you buying it?
