Microsoft launches Nokia Lumia 636 and 638 with TD-LTE support

Microsoft launches two new handsets, Nokia Lumia 636 and 638 into the Chinese market, a couple of days ago. These two windows phones are TD-LTE(Time Division Duplex-LTE) enabled, one of the two LTE standards supported by the China telecom operators.

Lumia 636 is set for China Unicorn network carrier where as Lumia 638 set for China Mobile.  These two Lumia baby’s are priced at CNY 1,299 i.e., Rs.12,400 approximately and going to hit the market on June 21st(Lumia 638) and July 5th(Lumia 636). These handsets will be available in the traditional Lumia color series. It is not yet clear whether these two support dual SIM feature or not.

Looking at the technical specifications, both phones have 4.5 inch display that can render 480x854 pixels resolution. It runs on Windows 8.1 phone operating system with 1.2GHz processor and 1GB RAM. Both the devices have 8GB of the internal storage and can further be expanded in future. They come with 5MP rear camera and no front camera, which is a bit disappointing for such class of phones of 12k price range.

The RAM upgrade is good but the lack of front camera and doubted dual SIM feature can’t win the hearts of people who choose buy budget phones.

The 5MP camera comes with any cheap android phone in the market today. It seems like Microsoft still have to learn from the failures Nokia had undergone. In such a competition with heavy featured mobile phones, releasing of Lumia series under ‘Budget Phone’ label need to get revised once.
