Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe ZE551ML Review: Specifications, Pros, Cons & Price

Asus announced another variant of Asus Zenfone 2, which is known as the Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe ZE551ML.  The phone shares the same variant number as Zenfone 2 (4GB) which was launched some months earlier. The phone has been priced Rs. 22,999 and Rs. 29,999 based on the processor/memory variant you choose. Let's see what Asus has stored for you in this flagship.

In the box

In the Deluxe box is the handset, 18W Boost Master Adapter, USB cable, User Manual and Warranty card. Like any other Asus phone, the manufacturers have also done away with headphones in this mobile.

The front panel of the phone has not received any updates. But the edges and the back panel has been beautifully crafted to help make a firm grip on the phone. The rear panel has the concentric circle design owing to the firm grip. The front panel has the loudspeaker on the top which looks supported by the ASUS logo. To the right hand side is the front camera (whose specifications have been discussed in the Camera section below). On the lower side you will find the usual navigation buttons.
On flipping the phone over, you see something new. Since the edges have been made thin, they have adjusted the Volume Up and Down Button in between the rear camera and the ASUS logo. On top of the logo is the LED Flash.
On the lower back panel are the loudspeakers. Luckily the few users having used it have said these speakers are enough to reach your ears when you are in a crowded place or have kept the phone on some flat surface.
On the top edge is the 3.5 mm jack slot. Asus Golden Ear Team has developed the Sonic Master technology exclusively to give you a clear and rick audio experience on speakers as well as headphones!

Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe ZE551ML has a gorgeous 5.5 inch IPS capacitive display. The Asus TruVivid technology takes up the task of making the screen look natural and lifelike. The screen is having a high display with a pixel density of 401ppi (1080 x 1920 pixels) and a scree size of ~70.8% screen-to-body ratio. The phone’s screen comes safely encased in Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a anti-fingerprint coating to reduce scratches and smudges. The phone also promises to respond to you touch as soon as in 60ms.
And, definitely it comes with the wonderful Asus ZenUI. The ZenUI let's you play around with a  couple of new features such as ZenMotion, SnapView, Trend Micro Security and ZenUI Instant Update.

Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe ZE551ML is powered with the super-fast Intel Atom Quad core Processor clocking at a speed of 2.3 GHz / 1.8 GHz. Wrapping up the package is the Android 5.0 Lollipop to keep you up-to-date with technology.

Asus is giving you a pool of memory in terms of external and internal slots. The internal slot has 64 GB for both the variants. The internal slot can be expanded up to 64GB or 128GB as per your choice.

The phone is backed up by the non-removable Li-Po 3000mAh with the fast battery charging feature that charges your phone up to 60% in 40 minutes.

+ Android 5.0 Lollipop
+ Great display
+ Sonic Master for better audio experience
+ Great memory expandability
+ Powerful full-day battery
+ ZenUI
+ Low SAR values

- Extra Rs.7,000 for more external slot and slight increase in clock speed isn't justified
- Android 5.1 Lollipop would have been great
- No NFC
- Battery should have been little more powerful
- Heavy(~170 grams)
- No headphones in the box

The phone comes in two price in accordance with the processor clock speed and memory expandability.

My impressions

I really liked the phone. The specs and pricing is pretty neat. But the Rs. 29,999 variant for more external slot and slight increase in clock speed isn't justified. With such high end specs, the phone does have some heating issues. So you might have to give some time to the phone to cool down. With such high screen resolution, clock speeds and multi tasking capabilities the battery capacity is not up to the mark.  As the internal slot is more than sufficient for storage, an additional storage would come handy if the user has a habit of storing 'lots' of data. I'm really excited to see how many users opt for the 128 GB version.
