Google News authorship is nothing but getting your news stories from your blog to be shown in Google News feed.
We’ve already seen the news update about the launching of Google News Publisher Center recently. It was introduced to facilitate old news publishers troubleshoot the indexing of their news stories and edit the listing’s categories.
Fortunately, it is also allowing new publishers to apply for the listing of their website or blog under various news categories. Though this feature is currently available for U.S. users only, it is good to know the process of applying as it is likely to be introduced for publishers in other countries also very soon.
Step 1: Go to https://partnerdash.google.com/partnerdash/d/news and login with your Google account credentials.
It will show the list of blogs that you have created and are associated with Google Webmaster Tools.
Step 2: Verify the ownership of your blog in Google Webmaster Tools if not yet verified.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Request Inclusion in Google News’ button of corresponding blog that you wanted to apply for Google News authorship.
Step 4: As you are new to the Google News network and so your blog, say ‘No’ to the first couple of questions asked and a ‘Yes’ to the third one.
Note: It is strongly recommended to read the questions once before you say ‘No’ or ‘Yes’. Suggestions made are based on the order and type of questions asked like as shown in the following screenshot.
Step 5: This will bring you an application form for a new Google News publisher. Fill in the details of your blog carefully and provide the news category URLs along with the proper labels individually.
Step 6: After done with news category URLs and labels, select all the categories that are applicable to your blog. Please note that inappropriate categorization of your blog could affect the inclusion of your site in Google News.
Step 7: This is the final step. You need to fill your contact information which would be generated and filled up automatically. You may edit this information if wanted.
